The American Welding Society D1 meetings were this week in Doral, Florida at AWS headquarters. That includes meetings related to D1.1 (Steel), D1.2 (Aluminum), D1.3 (Sheet Steel), D1.4 (Reinforcing Bars), D1.5 (Bridge), D1.6 (Stainless Steel), D1.8 (Seismic), and D1.9 (Titanium). The virtual and in-person meetings bring industry leaders together to improve our welding standards. It is also a time where we see old friends and make new ones. At the 2025 International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) Annual Awards ceremony, Senior Associate Patrick Giblin, RRC, RRO (second from right) accepted an Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting Award for Adaptive Reuse on behalf of the project team for the restoration of the Ramova Theatre in Chicago. The project previously won The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award in the Adaptive Use category. Senior Associate Corey Glaser, RA (left) and Associate Sam Zartman (second from left) received Outstanding Chapter Awards in recognition of their service on their local chapter boards. Senior Principal Douglas Stieve (right) was elected to the IIBEC Jury of Fellows for his many years of service to the organization and our profession.

While Universal Studios Hollywood is famous for its theme park, it is also the corporate campus for Universal Pictures and?is now the home for two new buildings designed by LEVER Architecture, The Commons and One Universal. These additions are part of a larger modernization project to make the campus more walkable, with buildings that integrate natural light, views, and outdoor spaces. Working with House & Robertson Architects, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. served as the waterproofing consultant for both buildings. Congratulations to the project team!
