A good nutritious meal is a vital step towards living a self-sufficient life as it gives our WISEPlace participants the energy and the nourishment to thrive each and every day. We offer three meals a day to our participants, every day throughout the year. You are not just dropping off food – you are letting the women know that someone cares. Mirna’s journey to homelessness was a heartbreaking one. After her divorce in 2015, her husband sold their home without her consent. Suddenly faced with eviction, she found herself living in her car for eight long years. Despite working a retail job that barely covered basic expenses, she couldn’t save enough for rent or a security deposit. The pandemic made survival even tougher. Mirna’s resilience led her to #WISEPlace. We helped Mirna with her housing search and paperwork and in less than two months in our program using our landlord connections, her application was approved! Mirna moved into her own apartment in March 2023. We provided her deposit and rental assistance for a year so she can continue to build up her savings. We also arranged for donations of furniture, small appliances, and household essentials to help her settle into her new home. Mirna also found a better-paying job. Not only is Stacey personable, thoughtful, and kind, she LOVES the women in our program. They are always her first priority and she puts in the hours to planning and executing our workshops every Saturday and special events throughout the year! It's wonderful to find young adults who are committed to making a difference for those that are less fortunate than they are. Danielle Najera doesn't shy away from the tasks and consistently shows up for the women when we need her to. She always greets each participant with a smile and works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the women we serve are taken care of not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Nancy Wieben Stock always brings to every event a smile, a "we can do it" attitude, and "what can we do to help you" frame of mind. From her own experience, she sees the need for organizations to help those that are struggling and Nancy answers the call! She is an integral part of our special events and workshops. What an extraordinary volunteer that we are very grateful to have on our team! A force to be reckoned with, Jayne Kacer brings her expertise and wisdom to every event. She is not deterred by set-backs and when she is faced with conflict, she shines through with her vast experience. In addition, she truly cares for the well-being of the women and does everything that she can to make sure an event is a success!
