Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Program | University at Buffalo

Last month WiSE hosted our fall on-campus day for the WiSE STEM Outreach Program. 60 high school students from 7 different high schools visited UB's North Campus to see what student life as a STEM major is like. We had a STEM club fair, hands on activities from the Geology department, a visit from the robot dog, campus tours, and a student speaker panel during lunch. Thank you to our student mentors, volunteers, UB faculty and staff along with the high school staff who make these opportunities possible!

Can't believe this event was 2 weeks ago! Thanks to all of our wonderful alumni, faculty, community partners and students who joined us to celebrate WiSE!

Exciting building plans ahead for our new engineering building, Agrusa Hall, which will be focused on spaces for student groups like WiSE!

We had a great training retreat with our STEM outreach program mentors this weekend. They'll be each be mentoring a small group of sophomore girls from local high schools who are interested in exploring STEM!

Happy first day of classes UB! Many of our WiSE students have been on campus since WiSE early move-in kicked off last week. We welcomed over 80 new students with an icebreaker ice cream social Tuesday evening. Wednesday we met #UBSEAS and #UBCAS faculty and staff during breakfast, enjoyed a bus tour of Buffalo with Explore Buffalo then visited the Buffalo Museum of Science and got to meet with their Chief Scientist and hear about her STEM journey. Thursday was "choose your own adventure" day where students had options that included: kayaking on Lake Lasalle, hiking in Letchworth Woods, checking out the E-sports lounge, visiting the DREAM hub, tabletop role-play gaming, and scoping out where there classes are. And we couldn't have done it without our amazing returning student volunteers for leading group activities, campus tours, and sharing their own student experiences and helping our new students feel like a part of our community!
