Congratulations to our Outstanding Wisconsin School of Business BBA Real Estate Team, Shane Donohue, Georgia Goff, Brenna Paul, Jessica Pientka, and Krishna Kashian for placing 1st at the 2024 Boston College Corcoran Case Competition among a formidable field of 70 teams across 46 universities. The team worked methodically for eight weeks to develop a proposal for a 1.55-acre site on the 388-acre West LA VA Campus in Brentwood, CA. Their proposal included 69 affordable apartment units at 40% AMI, 69 parking spaces, community programming, a health/wellness center, and LEED Silver certification. They performed a feasibility analysis to align with the West LA VA Campus Community Plan and the stringent requirements of LIHTC and Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities soft loan (AHSC). As a result, the project met affordability requirements, addressed the community needs, included sustainability features to reduce operating expenses, provided a risk mitigation strategy for each process step, and gave an outstanding presentation. This affordable housing development case competition was an excellent capstone learning opportunity that fused classroom learning with work experience. It will allow them to hit the ground running as they start their careers in real estate development and inspire them to solve America's housing affordability crisis. Special thanks to The Bascom Group for their continued support of the case competition program at UW-Madison. On Wisconsin!! James A.
