Now is the perfect time to make twice the impact for animals in need ? Animals like Moxxie...?? Moxxie was limping and bloody when a stranger found him and brought him to us.? He was covered head to toe in cuts, scabs, and puncture wounds, and his back paw was painfully swollen. Despite whatever trauma Moxxie had endured, he warmed up to our vets immediately. The 3-year-old pup was sweet and cooperative as his many wounds were flushed, cleaned, stitched, and treated.? He began to improve and heal, but he had an infected toe that didn’t seem to get better. Our tests showed that his injury was resistant to numerous antibiotics, including the one he was currently on. That meant our approach needed to change, and he was put on a new, more powerful medication.? After more than two months of recovery and foster care, Moxxie was finally cleared to find a family of his own, but he didn't have to look far... he went straight home with one of our volunteer dog walkers who had been smitten from the day they met. ?? Over the course of a year, ?we serve more than 40,000 animals and the people who love them. Thousands of animals come through our doors who require varying degrees of treatment, from simple vaccinations to life-saving surgery and extended periods of therapy. As animals heal and await adoption, we’ll meet whatever other needs they have, too. But as you can imagine, the expenses really add up! Founded in 1879, the Wisconsin Humane Society has been saving the lives of animals in need for nearly 140 years. WHS is a 501(c)(3) organization and operates animal shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, Kenosha and Brown Counties, as well as a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis. WHS annually serves 40,000 animals. We receive no general government funding and we are not part of any national umbrella organization. As the largest shelter in the state of Wisconsin, WHS offers the following specialized services: --A comprehensive adoption program that matches 10,000 homeless animals with new families; there are no time or space limits for any animals in our adoption program. We receive nearly all the area's surrendered animals, as well as animals from local and state animal control facilities, and animals transferred from other shelters. --Affordable spay/neuter services open to the public at the WHS Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. --A pet food bank to assist families with pets through tough financial times. --Youth programs --Outreach programming to serve families living in pet resource deserts. --A foster program for animals in domestic violence situations. --Dog training classes for dogs and puppies. --A Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that provides rescue, rehabilitation, and release for 5,000 wild animals annually, at our Milwaukee Campus.
