On Labor Day, we give thanks to our hard-working employees from the past, present, and future!
Yesterday was one of our best days. Each year on the Thursday before Labor Day, we celebrate our hard-working employees from the past and present. This year we had over 50 retirees come back for our annual retiree breakfast and tour. Their collective 2,100 years of experience form the foundation of our company as we continue to grow. It made us proud to see their pride as they marveled at our latest expansion. The day continued with a festive meal for everyone. With our stomachs full of potato salad and our hearts full of optimism for the future, we head into a weekend of much-deserved rest – before everything starts up again on Tuesday. One comment that resonated throughout the day was how much the make-up of our labor force has changed over the years. Like so many Midwestern manufacturing companies, we were built by the boomer generation of young men who are now mostly retired. But we have also always been a company of strong women and ambitious immigrants, starting with our founders Abe and Martha Schwartz. Yesterday we promoted our first-ever woman to be a production supervisor at our ATEK Metal Technologies LLC business unit. Krista Marrah joins women leaders across our other businesses who are smashing through glass ceilings (or metal ceilings, in our case :) and taking us to new heights. Happy Labor Day!

Our company makes the proverbial cog in the machine. We crank out millions of parts each year that quietly do their jobs, tucked away inside a machine or vehicle, never seeing the light of day. But in our tiny niche in the world, we are building something remarkable. This week we announced the acquisition of ATEK Metal Technologies LLC, a strong but humble family-owned foundry in the northern Midwest – just like us. With our fourth acquisition in recent years and several major capital projects in process, we aspire to create something that brings joy to the customers out there who value the types of things we make. With each acquisition we get an inside view into how companies that used to be our competitors approach the same issues that we also deal with. The learning is tremendous. ATEK is a renowned leader in low-pressure casting, and we are eager to bring their talented people into the fold of our 115-year legacy at Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry. Now the fun begins! https://lnkd.in/gaZC2dGy

The only thing more important today than the solar eclipse is the kickoff to the Week of the Young Child! This is an occasion each year to reflect on what more we can do to help nurture a positive environment for our kids. Please join us next week at WAF for a screening of the documentary "No Small Matter," which powerfully illuminates the importance of early childhood education. We will also have a discussion with local leaders on an initiative to support access to childcare in our community. Thank you The Chamber of Manitowoc County, Two Rivers YMCA, Progress Lakeshore, Inc. and United Way Manitowoc County for your partnership. #WOYC24 https://lnkd.in/g_A65Jq7

People often ask us how we stay so young at 115 years old. The secret? Pickleball and sudoku
