The staff at DOR would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving, whether you're hitting the road or "gobbling" down turkey at home. As a reminder, all Wisconsin state offices are closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, and will resume normal hours on Friday. Here's a fun fact to get you in the holiday spirit: "Jingle Bells" was first performed at a Thanksgiving Day church service in 1850 and written for today's holiday. Originally titled "One Horse Open Sleigh," it was about dashing through the snow to celebrate Thanksgiving — until Bing Crosby turned it into a Christmas carol.

A new report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum shows Wisconsinites pay 9.9% of their income toward taxes — a number that has been steadily declining and is lower than the national average. In fact, we've benefitted from the largest tax burden decrease in the country since 2000. Learn more at

It's #NationalCatDay, a chance to celebrate our favorite feline companions. Nearly one-third of Wisconsin households have at least one cat — proving they're meow-ty popular in America's Dairyland! "Kitty" isn't just something you say to get your cat's attention; it's also a slang term for prize money, making this the purr-fect opportunity to remind you that lottery winnings are subject to federal and state income tax withholding. Whether you cashed in a lucky "scratch" ticket or hit a Lotto jackpot, don't furr-get to claim your earnings when filing your 2024 taxes. #TaxTipTuesday
