  • STIR/SHAKEN (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited/Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) is a protocol used for call authentication and verification.?An originating service provider (or some other "call signer") signs calls with a token that contains claim information about the caller's identity.?This token is passed through networks, ultimately received by a terminating service provider, who verifies the information for purposes of determining call treatment.?? However, there are challenges with STIR/SHAKEN when it comes to TDM/SS7 networks.?TDM/SS7 is an older technology that is still used by many telecom carriers.?When a call is routed through a TDM/SS7 network, the token is stripped off.?This means that the terminating service provider cannot verify the caller's identity.?As a result, calls that are routed through TDM/SS7 networks often receive sub-optimal call treatment.?? It is important to note that even if a call is routed back to a VoIP/SIP network, the original claim information is still lost.?This is because the token is not added back to the call when it is converted back to VoIP/SIP.

Think about the last time you got a call and your caller ID screen said “spam call,” “spam risk,” or something similar. What did you do? Like most people, you hung up because you didn’t want to expose yourself to a potential risk. Generally speaking, nearly 75% of consumers don’t answer calls from flagged numbers. One study even shows that nearly 90% of consumers reject or ignore calls from unknown numbers. As someone working with a legitimate company, you might wonder why you would need call remediation managed services. Why would your numbers get flagged at all? You’re not trying to scam anyone or bombard them with spam calls! Phone numbers typically receive warning labels from Third-Party Apps and Analytics Engines. Caller ID Reputation’s services can identify flags applied to your numbers, but that doesn’t immediately make it easier for you to connect with leads. That’s why you need call remediation and redress services to repair damaged numbers. So, how do you rehabilitate numbers after a carrier, third-party app, or analytics engine flags them? Unfortunately, call remediation can take a lot of time and effort. When a number gets flagged, you have to place remediation requests with each carrier, call-blocking app, and analytics engine that shows the flag. Imagine going through that process when you have dozens or even hundreds of numbers. It’s a significant burden. Caller ID Reputation’s Managed Services has a dedicated team of professionals who can submit remediation tickets on your behalf. Since the team has ample experience working with carriers and third-party apps, you can expect results without hassle. Schedule a demo today to see how Managed Services can help your contact center remediate numbers and address other issues that might prevent you from reaching customers and leads.
