I walked down the hall at lunchtime without talking to any co-workers, returned to my office and closed the door. I had an idea and kept it to myself because I wasn’t provided the space or opportunity to share. I had ideas that felt different from others so I didn’t speak up. I had thoughts of concern and yet didn’t share because I feared the reaction to them. In all of these instances, I was reacting to the environment that was created and sustained. As leaders it is our responsibility to ensure we have an environment that is safe and our team can trust it and know what to expect. Without creating and cultivating the environment and culture regularly, we face unintended consequences. ??Ideas aren’t shared. ??Team members leave. ??Fear permeates. ??Growth is stifled. ??Confusion occurs. The thing is, without focusing on intentionally creating the environment, you really don’t know what will happen. It could go in many directions. The risks are great. Creating and cultivating a safe and healthy work environment takes time. It takes intention. Leaders need to make it their focus. Or risk focusing on many other aspects and taking extra time there based on the negative consequences that have occurred. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spend my time cultivating the culture, helping team members grow, and celebrating success than investigating complaints, filling vacant positions, and doing damage control. Take a moment and evaluate your environment. If it’s not what you want, choose an action to take. Start today so you can improve for tomorrow. #MotivationMonday #Culture #Leadership

How do you feel about the integrity of the organization that you work? Or the integrity of the people on your team? What about your own integrity? I feel that like trust, integrity is essential. And yet, what does it mean to have integrity. Do we really focus on that? It seems similar to trust in that, we will say, “I trust that person or I don’t trust them.” And we don’t always know why. With integrity, how do you know if someone has it or not? It shows up in company values. It shows up in interviews. It shows up in performance reviews. So how do we qualify integrity? Here are many of the qualities of integrity: ??Fair ??Honest ??Reliable ??Respectful ??Responsible ??Courageous ??Trustworthy As leaders, integrity builds trust on the team. It fosters an open and positive culture. It strengthens the team. It leads to balance and well-being. Integrity encourages inclusion. It makes sense that integrity shows up in company values and is part of how individuals are assessed in performance. Integrity is packed with powerful impact for you, your team and your business. You can work to increase integrity by modeling it yourself, addressing any conflict honestly and respectfully, respecting others’ opinions, and working ethically. How do you feel about your own integrity? What one action will you take to improve? How can you make it a practice? #MotivationMonday #Coaching #Culture #Leadership

Everyone needs this critical skill set. And, the reality is that we typically aren’t trained in truly effective teamwork skills. To have an effective team culture we need everyone on every team in the organization to have a common skill set for teamwork, and this skill set is critical to the future success of the organization. When you look at what components make for an effective team culture, the first thing we need is a shared set of values and culture. By culture, I mean a definition of how we work. How are we going to work together? ?Let’s have a conversation about it. ?Let’s set some parameters. We also need an environment where goals and projects are transparent, so everybody is on the same footing. There is clarity on direction and shared synergy across the organization. And to foster this culture, we need free information flow across teams and across the entire organization. This is essential as individuals and teams shift in a more fluid manner. People report that they are spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to work with one another instead of getting the work done. This really impacts team culture and ability for the organization to meet its goals. We must invest the time to change the way we work together to be effective moving forward. If you are ready for your team to work better together to improve your organization's performance, reach out to me. #Teamwork #Leadership #FiveBehaviors

Tell me more...???? It is a great way to be open to others and look for more information. I know when I saw these heart-shaped nutshells on the path...I paused and wanted to know more. I was curious. -How often does that happen? -What type of nut is this? -What tree are they from? When we are curious, it moves us forward to ask questions and search for new information. When we feel curious, we may also feel energized, alert, focused. By shifting into curiosity, we can pass through feeling fear and open up the learning zone. It allows us to welcome challenges and face problems. And, when we are in the learning zone, we can then begin to grow and excel. ?? It opens us to the possibilities of realizing our aspirations and dreams. Sometimes, curiosity is confused with skepticism. So, when someone is saying "tell me more" or asking questions - I encourage you to be open to the exploration of ideas. Open to the possibilities. ?When you are approaching learning, have you thought about the emotions that you experience? Our emotions are essential to understand as leaders and for every person to employ in their lives. ??I'm curious - how often do you notice your emotions throughout any given day? #MotivationMonday #Leadership #Growth
