In 1984, faced with some overstocked products and stagnant inventory, Poe typed up a two-page letter describing his stock and mailed it to all of his customers. The idea worked well and soon caught on among Poe’s friends, who started asking him if they could add their own products to his letter. This short letter became a regular newsletter as more companies opted in. Eventually, Poe turned it into a bi-monthly magazine with thousands of product listings from over a hundred lifting and rigging companies. Today, Wire Rope Exchange reaches over 5,500 companies in more than 40 countries.
