WinnCompanies is excited to announce that Cobbs Creek, an affordable community in West Philadelphia, has been awarded a $6.8 million grant from the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) to support energy efficiency and climate resilience renovations for the 85-unit community. This grant will support WinnDevelopment’s efforts in renovating new kitchens and baths, accessibility improvements and significant energy and efficiency improvements for the families living in Cobbs Creek. The GRRP is the first HUD program to simultaneously invest in energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, climate resilience, and low-embodied-carbon materials in HUD-assisted multifamily housing. As of October 3, 2024, GRRP funding has been awarded to 225 properties and more than 25,940 rental homes, to make them greener, healthier, and safer for low-income households, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Our team in New England recently attended the The Apartment Association of New Hampshire (AANH)’s annual banquet in Manchester, NH. The event included a networking hour and featured several speakers and a special guest, comedian Juston McKinney. The event concluded with a brief award ceremony, where WinnCompanies Kristopher Albert of Wingate Village in Laconia, NH, was honored as the New Hampshire Maintenance Person of the Year award. Property Manager Jennifer Anderson, CMH at Walden Square, an affordable housing community in Cambridge, MA, recently received an award from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. Jennifer was recognized for her hard work and dedication to ensure that a veteran living at Walden Square resident was able to access HCHV medical care when needed. Jennifer displayed her passion for excellence and accepted her award during the 8th Annual HCHV Award Ceremony at the VA Boston’s Brockton Healthcare Campus in Brockton, MA. Larry Curtis, President and Managing Partner of WinnDevelopment, recently discussed the pivotal project of his career in Affordable Housing Finance Magazine’s series, “The Development that Changed My Life." Starting his career with Winn in 1986, Larry assumed his current leadership role at WinnDevelopment in 2003. The redevelopment of Boott Mills in Lowell, MA, was the first historic adaptive reuse project that Larry pursued with Winn, transforming the long-vacant historic mill into The Apartments and Lofts at Boott Mills, a 154-unit mixed-income community.
