In every situation, we have a choice: focus on how we can make things happen, or look for reasons why it won’t work. The key to success is being resourceful, showing initiative, and taking personal responsibility. Don’t wait for others to solve the problem—be the one who steps up and makes it happen. A perfect example of this mindset is Danielle Passaglia, PE LEED? Green Associate with Smith Group. She inherited some challenging projects with tight spaces and mechanical rooms, but instead of saying, “We can’t do that,” Danielle took the time to find creative solutions. Her ability to work through difficult issues and see them through to completion is a true reflection of leadership, perseverance, and the determination to always find a way. Each week, we focus on one fundamental, share its value, and integrate it into our daily habits. When we finish the cycle, we start over again — and we’ve been doing this every week for the past 4 years! This round we want to share with all of you! Clarity is key to successful collaboration. By discussing expectations upfront, we can avoid misunderstandings and ensure everyone is on the same page. Set clear expectations for others (internally and externally), and don’t hesitate to ask for clarification when you're unsure of what’s expected from you. End every meeting with clear action items, defined responsibilities, and set due dates. This brings accountability and helps keep projects moving forward smoothly. We’d like to nominate Lesley Ortiz from Johnson Controls for this essential practice. Lesley consistently excels at providing timely updates and communication. She proactively reaches out with order updates, informing us of any changes or delays without needing to be prompted, and always responds promptly, often within the same day. Recently, there was an issue with shipping equipment, and Lesley immediately communicated the problem, explained the steps she was taking to resolve it, and followed up with a bill of lading and tracking information. She is always thorough, informative, and more than willing to lend a helping hand. Thank you, Lesley, for exemplifying clarity and great communication in every interaction! ??
