Metsera, a biotech innovator focused on weight loss treatments, has secured $215M in Series B funding, bringing its total raised to over $500M in just seven months! Metsera is advancing its pipeline of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), including its lead candidate MET-097i, which showed a 7.5% weight loss in Phase I trials. The company is now progressing to Phase II trials, with early results expected in 2025. Additionally, Metsera is developing two other promising candidates: - MET-233i: An ultra-long-acting injectable for monthly dosing - MET-002: An oral GLP-1RA that could be combined with other treatments. ???? Is CAR-T Making a Comeback for Cancer Treatments? ???? CAR-T Therapies for the treatment cancers have taken a bit of a hit in recent years, with companies pivoting towards the treatment of autoimmune diseases. However, recent market data has shown increased funding within oncology. Most recently, AvenCell secured $112M Series B for Innovative 'Switchable' CAR-T Therapies aiming to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of its platform for treating blood cancers. Its lead candidate, AVC-101, is a CD123-targeted autologous therapy currently in a phase 1 trial for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), addressing the toxicity challenges of traditional CAR therapies. With other CAR-T biotechs such as Arsenal Biosciences, Inc. raising $325m Series C in September, and Outpace Bio raising $144m Series B in August, it will be exciting to see how the CAR-T market evolves over the next year.
