Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for individuals in recovery. Thanksgiving is a time for celebration and gathering with close friends and family and is often accompanied by alcohol. Not only is alcohol prevalent, but the concentrated time with some friends and family can be emotionally difficult at times. Alternatively, individuals who are not close to their family, either geographically or emotionally, may struggle with challenging feelings around Thanksgiving, making this time of year risky for sustained sobriety. Check out the tips below on how to help navigate the holiday and maintain your sobriety. If you are struggling with alcohol or drug use, call our compassionate team of advisors at Windmoor Healthcare to discuss our treatment options at 727-322-7222 or visit https://windmoor.com/ to learn more.

We are proud to share that we are a Trauma-Informed Care trained facility. We have been working hard to ensure all our staff are trained in Trauma-Informed Care throughout this month and have been thrilled with the impact the training is making on us. While our Clinical staff is quite educated on Trauma-Informed Care, it is comforting to know that all staff members from our CEO, Business office, Housekeeping, Dietary, Medical Records, and more are now also trained in Trauma-Informed Care. We are incredibly proud of our staff and their openness to this training. The classes prompted great discussions and forward-thinking.

We recently welcomed several peer support team members from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for a site tour and a Meet and Greet with our team. The Manatee County Sheriff's Department takes the mental health of its members seriously and has implemented a peer-support team, welcomed a four-legged deputy to its department for service and emotional support, and is being proactive in learning about local resources if the need arises for inpatient and outpatient mental health needs. We had a wonderful conversation learning about their needs and pain points, successes, and areas of growth they are hoping to achieve. They toured our Uniformed Personnel Program and provided us with valuable insight and feedback throughout the tour. Thank you for all you and your department members do to keep the community safe. We are here for you if a need arises.
