Please join us at our new Thrive Well Hub at the Art O Mat as we partner with Nemours Community Health partners to bring FREE youth mental health workshops that cater to school aged children’s needs. We will host two classes in the month of March focused on the following: Mental Health Literacy: March 20, 9:30-10:30 AM ?? Attendees will learn the basics of mental health, laying the foundation for mental health literacy. We will discuss how hormones affect mental health throughout adolescence, identify stressful situations, how the “fight or flight” response and stress connect, and how to cope with stressful situations. The educator will go over depression and anxiety basics like definitions, signs and symptoms, and the difference between normal feelings and feelings that need attention from an adult. How to identify a trusted adult and begin talking to them, and help/crisis lines if they do not have a trusted adult. Defining stigma and how to reduce it, how mental health affects physical health, and the affect social media can have on mental health. Healthy Relationships: March 28, 9:30-10:30 AM ?? Attendees will learn about healthy communication, consent, peer pressure, and the signs of a healthy vs unhealthy relationship, and toxic friendships. We are excited to announce the public engagement project of artist Emmanuel Aboagye in response to his research last year as a DELPHI fellow. Echoes of Liberation, Something Torn and Renewed takes it inspiration from Kenyan writer Ngugi Wa'Thiango's memoir "Something Torn and New." The show attempts to investigate relationship between the image and the object. Providing us an opportunity to contemplate, to engage and to experience notions of memory while considering the question of the image as a starting point.
