On February 19th, we had the opportunity to participate in the Horizon Europe Project Clustering Event for Wind Energy, connecting with brilliant minds from across Europe. ? Engaging with experts and gaining insights from CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and the European Commission is a fantastic way to drive innovation forward and shape the future of wind energy. ?? The goal of reaching 510GW of wind energy capacity by 2030 is ambitious, but collaboration across the industry will make it possible. ?? At #WILLOW, we are developing an integrated system that will provide an open-source, data-driven smart curtailment solution to the Wind Farm Operators with the basis of an integrated Wind Farm Control system looking for a trade-off between the power production and the lifetime consumption. ?Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of wind technology! ?? #WindEnergy #Innovation #HorizonEurope #Renewables

On November 28, 2024, the Horizon Europe event took place in Oviedo and was organized by @CDTI_innovacion in collaboration with Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades , the European Commission, Oviedo City Council and the Agencia Sekuens. ?? The goal of the event was to analyse the progress and impact of #HorizonEurope and its major initiatives to date. Last week, we had the opportunity to take part in a meeting with the Advisory Board of the WILLOW Project EU in Gent, Belgium. This gathering brought together a diverse group of experts from across the offshore wind energy sector to review the progress and delve into key technical aspects of this important initiative. ???? ?? A key focus of the discussions was the design of a novel Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system. This system is set to provide high-quality data for reliable fleet life assessments, informed by both physical models and data-driven AI methods. The goal is to aid in decision-making and maintenance scheduling, ultimately contributing to a reduction in the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and an increase in Annual Energy Production (AEP). We are very excited about the progress we’re making and the potential impact of our collective efforts. Together, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and economically viable offshore wind energy sector. Successful Advisory Board Meeting! ??Last week, we hosted a highly productive meeting with the Advisory Board, bringing together experts from across the offshore wind energy sector to review our progress and discuss key technical aspects of the project. ?? The meeting, held at Sirris | Innovation forward facilities in Belgium, featured both in-person and online participation from leading companies and organisations in the industry: Aeroblade, DNV , ISATI Engineering Solutions , nabla wind hub, Nautilus Floating Solutions, Otary RS NV, Parkwind, SGS, Smulders, WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO). ??The meeting began with an introduction to the project, emphasising the connections between various work packages and sub-groups. We then moved into the technical discussions, where sub-groups presented and reviewed their work: ?? Track A focused on the continuous monitoring, prediction, and standardisation of coating conditions and corrosion (uniform and pitting) for Offshore Wind Farms (OWF). ?? Track B centered around cybersecurity strategy and its standardisation for OWF ???After a short break, the second part of the meeting covered common topics of interest. These included: Fleet lifetime assessment and standardisation for OWF in curtailed conditions, along with wind farm control in these conditions to ensure optimal performance. ?? The day concluded with a visit to the Sirris | Innovation forward facilities. ?? A big thank you to all the participants for your valuable insights and contributions. ?? Celebrating Progress in the WILLOW Project EU! ?? On the 20th and 21st of November, the WILLOW Project EU consortium convened at the facilities of Sirris | Innovation forward in Belgium. It was an engaging and productive meeting where we reviewed the progress of our work packages and had insightful discussions on each thematic area: ??Cybersecurity Strategy & Environmental Assessment Norther shared insights into Cybersecurity, Ceit Centro Tecnológico highlighted its advancements, and TSI -Técnicas y Servicios de Ingeniería S.L.- summarised the Environmental Assessment. ?? Novel Structural Health Monitoring System Combined with Drone-Based Inspections ?? W?lfel Group introduced innovations in Virtual Sensing. ??C-Cube International and #CEIT discussed findings on Coating Degradation. ??#SIRRIS shared research on Pitting Corrosion. ??Alerion showcased their work on Automatic Classification of Damages. ?? Data-Driven Farmwide Corrosion and Load Prognosis, Lifetime Assessment & Novelty Detection Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 24SEA and Flanders Make shared a forward-looking presentation on leveraging data to enhance lifetime assessment and detect novelties across wind farms. ??? Fleet Life Assessment and Integrated Wind Farm Control SINTEF delivered an impressive overview of fleet life assessment methodologies and strategies for integrated wind farm control. ?? Project Management and Technical Coordination We reviewed the progress of project management and technical coordination efforts, ensuring all aspects align seamlessly ?? Dissemination and Exploitation Activities Cluster de Energía | Basque Energy Cluster took the lead in presenting our strategies for effective dissemination and exploitation to maximise the impact of the #WILLOW project. ?? We also had the chance to visit #SIRRIS's laboratories and see their innovative processes and advanced technologies up close. ??#WILLOW was presented in the event, "Challenges and Opportunities in Offshore Wind Farms: Innovation in O&M" ?? On 18-19 November, Iberdrola, TECNALIA Research & Innovation and UPV/EHU, in collaboration with the Professional College of Chemists and Cluster de Energía | Basque Energy Cluster, hosted the second edition of the Technical Conference on the Offshore Renewable Industry in the Basque Country. ?? This hands-on event brought together leading figures in the sector to showcase and debate the latest innovations designed to enhance operational efficiency and lower operation and maintenance (O&M) costs in offshore wind farms. ?? That’s why, on 18 November, Ainhoa Cortes from CEIT gave an engaging presentation on the WILLOW Project EU, showcasing its significant contribution to advancing innovation and efficiency in O&M. ??A heartfelt thank you to all who participated and made it a success! #OffshoreWind #O&M #Corrosion #Research #Opportunities

??Successful Testing of Ultrasound Sensors ??On October 28th and 29th, teams from Ceit Centro Tecnológico and TSI -Técnicas y Servicios de Ingeniería S.L.- collaborated on-site at TSI’s facilities in Madrid, conducting tests of #Ceit’s sensors on a prototype tower engineered by #TSI. ??These two days of testing marked a significant advancement in thickness measurement and structural response analysis under both static and dynamic conditions. ?? Key Achievements. ?? Conducted static tests by applying loads of up to 2 kN. ??Performed dynamic tests, subjecting the structure to vibrations at various frequencies. ??Complemented ultrasound measurements with TSI sensors, including an accelerometer and strain gauge. ?? Next Steps Our next objective is to carry out a detailed modal analysis of the structure, using accelerometer and strain gauge data. We aim to evaluate the impact of varying bolt tension in joints and to study how potential structural damage may affect load distribution. ??
