During the regular board meeting held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the Willis ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the instructional materials selections for K-12 Math and K-5 Reading/Language Arts. The district selected Bluebonnet Learning for K-12 Math and Savvas for Reading/Language Arts. ?????? Willis ISD led a comprehensive staff, parent and community engagement campaign to allow those interested an opportunity to review materials prior to the board vote. A total of eight meetings were held between December 2024 and March 2025, with over 200 attendees. During the meetings, administrators presented the materials and attendees were given access to each vendor’s digital products for exploration and review. Meeting attendees were given a rubric to score each product based on content criteria. The information and voting rubrics were also shared with parents and staff through email. Additionally, district administrators, teachers and instructional coaches attended a materials showcase held at ESC 6 in Huntsville. The data from the content rubrics, including participant feedback, was disaggregated and used to inform the district’s recommendation to the board. Students in Mrs. Moore's Algebra class at Brabham Middle School took their lesson outdoors with an engaging traffic light challenge. ?? Fifth graders at Cannan Elementary used Curipod to get instant feedback on their writing. ?? Mrs. Morgan's kindergarten class at C. C. Hardy Elementary examined the weather outdoors and then created drawings based on their observations. ?? Mrs. Martone’s first-grade class at Parmley Elementary sent and received mail from around the world during the month of February. ?? Students in Mrs. Ghali’s class at Roark Early Education Center matched baby animals to their parents. ?? Students in Mrs. Rockwell's ELA class at Stubblefield Academy learned about text structures by reading passages during a gallery walk.
