The snowy weather is impacting roads throughout Will County, causing slick conditions and low visibility. In all situations, please drive cautiously, slow down, and give extra travel time to get to where you need to go. If you come across a snowplow: 1) Slow Down – Snowplows travel around 20 mph or less, so reducing your own speed around them keeps you, your passengers, and snowplow operators safe. 2) Be Alert – Snowplows are frequently stopping to ensure their lights are free of snow and ice buildup. Ensure plenty of distance between you and snowplows to prevent any type of collision should an abrupt stop happen. 3) Make Sure Your Lights Are On – If snowfall is heavy enough, your headlights may be the only thing helping others see your vehicle. 4) Do Not Pass – Passing during severe weather conditions is dangerous for all parties involved. Do not pass snowplows on the road. Often times if you are behind a snowplow, it means the road in front of you hasn't been plowed yet! 5) Stay in Place if You Can – Traveling during any type of severe weather is not recommended. If you're able to make it to a safe location before storms hit, this is your best option!

County Executive Bertino-Tarrant joined Governor JB Pritzker at the Joliet Park District’s Inwood Athletic Club to celebrate the opening of the first electric vehicle charging station funded under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). All 12 fast-charging ports are now open to the public, made possible by Illinois Environmental Protection Agency grants. CEJA is helping local governments throughout the state install EV charging stations, helping them meet the growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles. Thank you to Governor Pritzker, Illinois EPA, ComEd, the Veterans Energy Team, Mayor D’Arcy, and all of the officials that helped bring the project to completion right here in Will County.

We were happy to attend this year’s Well-Woman Day Health Fair, hosted by the Will County Health Department and Community Health Center and National Hook-up of Black Women – Joliet! This was a great opportunity to spotlight local community resources and connect residents to healthcare services.

Today, Will County Animal Protection Services welcomed students from Wilco Vet Assist to learn about the important work performed inside the animal care field. The students assisted in the many tasks required to care for the animals, and had some great questions answered by staff. Thank you to Wilco for making WCAPS a part of your students’ journey in learning about and preparing for this important line of work. We hope the experience was memorable!
