The Trump Administration made headlines this week on tariffs, federal procurement, preparedness and emergency response, and Corporate Transparency Act exemptions for U.S companies. Wiley is tracking these and other key developments to help clients navigate shifts in the legal, policy, and regulatory landscape. https://lnkd.in/e8WyJtmi #Tariffs #CorporateTransparencyAct #EmergencyResponse

I talked to Bloomberg Law about transactions involving sensitive genetic data. The impact of state #privacy laws is new, but regulators like the #FTC have a history of getting involved in sensitive data transfers. And privacy safeguards are an issue to watch in transactions generally - especially if dealing with transactions across borders. #AI #fintech https://lnkd.in/ew6EueZj

During my last St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Camp, I started talking with a couple of my friends about what being part of that community means to us. That was the genesis of an idea to write an article for Law360’s “my hobby makes me a better lawyer” series. Appropriately enough, the article published today — Opening Day (with apologies to my Dodgers and Cubs fan friends…the Tokyo series doesn’t count).

FedRAMP has announced that it will be working on a new framework for authorization and assessment of cloud services for federal consumption, calling the initiative “FedRAMP 20X”. In response to concerns from cloud service providers (CSPs) and other stakeholders that the existing FedRAMP process is too expensive, time-consuming, and challenging, FedRAMP 20X aims to improve the efficiency of the FedRAMP process by “transitioning away from costly, inefficient, manually compiled documentation and towards industry-led, data-driven security reporting.” https://lnkd.in/e-nqnqPs #GovCon #Cybersecurity

As I shared with Fox News Media this afternoon, this review may be more complex and take longer than the Senate Committee might hope, but it makes sense that they’ve trusted the OIG with the important task of getting to ground truth on what happened and why. That’s what OIGs are able to deliver—reliable, objective facts. It’s an OIG’s unique value proposition. "This is precisely why independent offices of inspectors general are so valuable. When a situation becomes a hot-button political issue, it’s incredibly helpful to have an objective, nonpartisan group of trained professionals to do the fact-finding and answer the hard questions," former State Department inspector general Diana Shaw told Fox News Digital. https://lnkd.in/gqc-RbcN

A big win for AXIS Insurance Company and the Wiley Rein LLP team! On appeal, the Third Circuit affirmed AXIS’s trial court win in this $106 million coverage dispute. The court applied a common-sense reading of the insurance policy and held that a Changes in Exposure Provision precluded coverage for an acquired company’s wrongful acts committed before the acquisition. Our Wiley team, led by Jason Cronic and John Howell, is pleased to have obtained this result.

Thanks to David Tonini, Aaron Futch, and Jennifer Hindin for an interesting (and fun) discussion about the intersection of Hollywood and DC regulation at Space Beach Law Lab. And great to have the support of a full Wiley team with Chloe Hawker, Jillian Quigley, Craig Smith, and John Prairie.
