Does restoration support local wildlife???? Let's see! ?????WildMon is partnering with IPê - Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas, Universidade Federal de S?o Carlos - UFSCar Oficial, and NEEDS to track restoration progress over space and time, to understand how such regeneration or reforestation efforts support local wildlife and facilitate their return to 3 biomes: Amazon (Pará and Maranh?o), Cerrado (Mato Grosso do Sul), and Altantic Forest (Bahia and Espírito Santo). This project will utilize #ecoacoustics and #eDNA to holistically understand different taxonomic groups from birds and mammals to insects and fungi. Monitoring wildlife across restoration areas in these corridors is essential; this information helps our partners assess the effectiveness of restoration efforts, identify areas needing further intervention, and ensure that the restored corridors function as intended. ? ?? Two weeks ago, I spoke to University students at SNiC (Stichting Nationaal informatica Congres)'s SustainabilIT Conference about WildMon’s work. It was a rainy day—perfect for staying indoors and diving into meaningful discussions about nature technology and conservation applications. The students were especially engaged when I played a sound clip from Brazil, showcasing how ecoacoustics can reveal and track rare species in ecosystems. The Q&A session was filled with thoughtful questions, one that stood out was about how we address the resource-intensive nature of AI in conservation—a challenge we and everyone using AI needs to take seriously. I hope these students pursue career pathways that improve AI's sustainability and conservation outcomes. I’m grateful to the organizers Dionne Gantzert Charlotte Hoogteijling, students, and a rockstar moderator Karen van der Zanden for making it an unforgettable experience and allowing me to share how IT expertise and tools can help biodiversity. #biodiversity #speaker #sustainability #naturetech #wildmon #AI
