Excited to share Wildmon.ai's latest blog on how bioacoustic monitoring is being used to assess the impact of rubber agroforestry on wildlife in Thailand. ???? This represents but a step in laying to rest the toxic and prevailing myth that humans and humanity are defacto "bad" for the Earth. This narrative drives further isolation, extraction, and separation of humanity from the soil and web of life we're intimately dependent upon... more on that in another post! In this project, we're actively tracking three key groups: monoculture rubber, diversified Wanakaset agroforestry (our farmer partners), and secondary forests. Our aim is to quantify the species abundance and richness of each system, exploring how similar - in terms of complexity - agroforestry can map against secondary forests. This work demonstrates how technology and ecological stewardship increasingly intersect, providing crucial insights into relationship and potential of regenerative agroforestry as a driver in supporting the Earth's innumerable inhabitants. Had an incredible time representing WildMon at “Reimagining Nature with the Nature Tech Collective, Session 1: Harnessing Technology and Finance for Nature, Leveraging Technology for Biodiversity Monitoring and Conservation” ?? It was inspiring to see how companies and organizations are making efforts to remove barriers for more effective biodiversity monitoring, effective reporting and value chain assessment. Here are my key takeaways: 1?? We need to stop reinventing the wheel and use proven, fully traceable biodiversity indicators that are based on rigorous data collection on the ground 2?? We can help companies trace value chain impacts by starting with widely available remote sensing layers that give us a general overview and then focus on more detail assessments through data collection to paint the rest of the picture Big thanks to Nature Tech Collective and fellow roundtable leads ?Alan Kroeger at Satelligence, Coby Strell at Kanop for contributing to a great discussion!. WildMon is teaming up with the Division of Fish & Wildlife of the USVI Department of Planning and Natural Resources to assess the population status of bird and frog populations, with an emphasis on species of greatest conservation need (SGCN) and invasive species. Using #ecoacoustics, this project will provide valuable insights into population trends, habitat use, and threats, helping our partners prioritize resource allocation and support adaptive management approaches to protect biodiversity and ensure the survival of at-risk species. ?
