关于我们
Wildlife Works is a community-centered wildlife conservation company that implements market-based initiatives to protect the planet’s threatened wilderness and endangered wildlife. The company was founded on the premise that if we want wildlife in our world, we have to make it work for local communities who share their environment. In partnership with forest communities, Wildlife Works’ conservation projects provide safe havens for endangered species while creating local jobs and reducing millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually through the voluntary carbon market.

True conservation starts with listening, understanding, and amplifying community voices. In this blog, follow Hadi Prayitno, Stakeholder Engagement Manager at Wildlife Works Indonesia, on his journey to villages at the edge of forests. His journey reveals that conservation isn’t just about protecting nature, it’s about creating the conditions where communities can forge their own solutions. Each village has its own context, from embracing democracy to navigating traditional hierarchies, and requires thoughtful work to plant the seeds for a sustainable future. Dive into the Hadi’s story to see how small actions can lead to lasting change: https://lnkd.in/g47mh96i #Conservation #Community #CommunityLed #Indonesia

In this latest camera trap footage from the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project, meet the Red River Hog (Potamochoerus porcus) ?? Native to the jungles and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, the Red River Hog is one of the most striking members of the pig family with their red hair and long white ear tassels. Red river hogs are incredibly intelligent creatures, and have been known to follow chimpanzees in search of fallen fruit. This species is currently not endangered; in fact, their populations are surging throughout Africa as ecosystems become unbalanced due to the overhunting of their predators, such as leopards. Their unchecked populations can lead to increased human-wildlife conflicts from crop invasions and disease transmission of African Swine Flu. Where is nature at #COP29? As negotiations in Baku progress, we are deeply concerned that nature-based climate solutions are being marginalized. The current text about the New Collective Quantified Goal fails to reference the urgent need to fund nature conservation and restoration. This critical gap underscores the importance of platforms like Biodiversity COP16, where Indigenous voices and local perspectives can drive meaningful climate action. This year, Wildlife Works facilitated a pivotal community delegation from the Atrato Baudó, Maloca Vaupés ASATRIZY and ASATIQ REDD+ Projects to attend the #BiodiversityCOP16 in Cali, Colombia. Glenister Garrido Cossio, a community leader at the Atrato Baudó REDD+ project, emphasized: "Being part of this REDD+ project has been one of our key strategies to conserve and maintain our territories. These projects strengthen our relationship with the forest, the environment, and ourselves." Felix Ferrer, a biodiversity monitor at the Maloca Vaupés ASATRIZY project, added depth to this perspective: "To conserve biodiversity is not only to conserve animals and plants, but also to conserve the traditions, cultures and lives of Indigenous peoples." We congratulate The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) for making important progress on unblocking voluntary corporate contributions to frontline communities who are protecting forests and biodiversity for the global population’s benefit. Our community partners often remind us that the carbon emissions impact of their carbon projects is actually the co-benefit. Carbon is the means to meet their most urgent need to finance their climate adaptation and livelihoods. It's also a tool that has worked to redistribute global climate finance to the Global South from polluting companies in the Global North. High quality must first and foremost be defined by meeting the development needs for communities to choose conservation over destruction.
Today at #COP29, the UK government announced its intention to setting out principles and guidance for carbon credits, closely aligned with the Integrity Council’s Core Carbon Principles (CCPs). This commitment signals strong support for building a high-integrity global carbon market that accelerates decarbonisation. ??? ? "The UK government's principles for Voluntary Carbon and Nature Market Integrity send a strong signal about the important role that high-integrity carbon markets play in accelerating climate action. Their consultation on endorsing our work is a testament to the CCPs as the independent global standard for what constitutes a high-integrity carbon credit.” said our CEO Amy Merrill?? ? This announcement made by minister Kerry McCarthy - Labour MP for Bristol East is a crucial step toward addressing concerns like greenwashing and creating clarity and consistency for companies leveraging carbon credits to achieve net zero and nature-positive outcomes. ??? ? “We are in a climate emergency and we need to use every tool in the box to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. High-integrity carbon credits can mobilise private finance at scale for projects to reduce and remove billions of tonnes of emissions that would not otherwise be viable. They can also channel significant climate finance to countries in the Global South.” Amy added? ? UK government’s announcement follows similar endorsements from the US government, ISDA, CFTC, and MAS, demonstrating a global commitment to well-governed, credible #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets. ??? ? ?? Join us at #COP29? Explore how we are driving the development of a high-integrity #VCM2.0. Visit our events and learn more here: www.icvcm.org/COP29??

As world leaders gather to discuss climate action at #COP29, which recently achieved the passing of #ParisAgreement Article 6.4, we must ensure that the process to guarantee quality and integrity for the carbon market includes decision makers from those on the frontline so the guidance is practical and impactful. Our 25-year experience shows that real change happens at the community level. In our latest blog, discover how the Theory of Change framework is one fundamental tool that enables local communities to lead their own forest conservation projects by creating tangible goals for sustainable development. From Latin America to Africa, communities are proving that protecting forests and improving livelihoods can go hand in hand.
