????Meet our director, Lisa Rowell!???? In 2022, Lisa took over Wildlife Rescue Coalition of Northeast Florida (WRC), moving it to a new location in St. Augustine. Lisa has been active with WRC for many years, fostering and actively participating in operations with the organization. Lisa has a B.S. degree in Environmental Science, specializing in Biology. She previously had her own Environmenal Consulting practice for 15 years. She started rescuing animals in her teens and saw the need for community awareness to understand the importance of wildlife. With urban development popping up all over, wildlife continues to face a loss of habitat and their homes, forcing them into highly populated areas, much of the time where they wouldn't normally be found. With an increasing need for wildlife rescue, Lisa and her husband purchased 25 acres of land in St. Augustine where they have their home and also the new wildlife rescue facility for WRC! After getting her arm wrapped and with some extra love from her foster, her prognosis is great. She should be healed in a couple of weeks. ?? ?? Do you have a pool? ??Help save the life of wild animals that fall in with an escape ramp. We get calls for opossums, squirrels, raccoons, bats, and other animals that fell into a pool and couldn’t get out. You can use something as simple as a piece of lumber placed in the pool at angle or order some devices specifically made to help animals. Enjoy your swimming! Just make sure your pool is safe for animals. ??

Have you ever seen a baby armadillo? Look at this sweet baby! ?? Nine-banded Armadillos are common in Florida and are an important part of our ecosystem. They are a great pest control, as they eat tons of insects (like wasps, ants, and roaches!) and grubs. Baby armadillos are always born as identical quadruplets and their armor is soft and rubbery and feels a little like a pencil eraser. This little lady will stay with one of our amazing fosters as she grows and learns how to be a wild animal. She’s already grown up so much from when she arrived (first image) nearly a month ago and look how big she has gotten in the rest of the pictures! ?? For this week’s Center Resident Spotlight Monday, we are revisiting our beautiful mama fox who got caught in a trap. We found her baby a few days later and reunited them. As a happy update, we’ve added a few more older, orphaned babies (no longer nursing) to her family and she has enjoyed every minute. ?? We will help this gorgeous family until all of them are safe to release back into a safe area in the wild. ?? ?? We know they’re cute. We know you want to help it. But wildlife babies require specialized care. They grow up to be wild and need help learning how to survive on their own. Every year, we take wildlife from well-meaning people who accidentally made it very hard to be able to release the animal back into its habitat. Save the baby, by all means! GFWC FL Southside Woman’s Club of Jacksonville invited our director, Lisa Rowell to speak about what our organization does for our local native wildlife. They then presented us with generous donation of $500! ?? We are so glad to have had the opportunity to spend time with these wonderful, conscientious women. Thank you!

??Otters!?? This Monday’s Rescue Center Resident Spotlight has to go to these babes. We all love them, although it’s rare otters need our help. This time, we received 3 baby otters that had been orphaned. A nearby licensed expert was able to stabilize and feed the otters until they were weaned, and then they were transferred to us. They will spend their days with us until they can fend for themselves effectively and then will be released in a safe, proper environment. ???? ??Remember, none of our animals are pets and it is illegal in Florida to own wildlife without proper permitting??
