The Proctor Dairy project, in partnership with Wildlands Engineering, Inc., in North Carolina focuses on the permanent conservation of ecological integrity and water quality within the Lower Catawba River Basin. This project has successfully established a functional riparian corridor through targeted restoration efforts, including the improvement of stream channels, reestablishment of riparian buffers through strategic revegetation, and restoration of natural hydrology to enhance wetland functions. ???? These initiatives have significantly improved conditions for aquatic organisms, reconnected critical biological links between riparian and aquatic ecosystems, and contributed to the long-term sustainability of the watershed while providing valuable habitat for diverse species. ???? https://lnkd.in/daPyh-st #WetlandRestoration #StreamRestoration #Conservation

In early January, two Wildlands scientists attended the “Drought and Aquatic Ecosystems in the Southeast” workshop in Raleigh, NC. As leaders in the stream restoration industry, it is important to stay current on the latest drought trends. The goal of the workshop was to understand the impacts of low-flow and drought on natural systems to inform future research needs, management practices, and adaptations planning. One highlight for our scientists was touring a laboratory that specializes in research and propagation of federally listed freshwater species that Wildlands has worked so hard to protect with our Conservation Easements throughout Swift Creek at our Great Meadows Mitigation Bank Site. We are looking for a student enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program for environmental or biological sciences, landscape architecture, forestry, or related applicable scientific discipline or engineering discipline. The position is a paid, full-time, hourly internship that will include both office and field work.
