When the pedestrian experience takes center stage, the design is crafted to welcome users of all ages and abilities. At Long Creek Greenway, we chose a 12-foot wide, multi-use path to make sure the greenway is accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and bicycles alike. Wildlands Engineering, Inc.

Wildlands is looking for an experienced water resources engineer to join our Springfield, VA office. This position will support the design of complex ecosystem restoration projects, field assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and stormwater management. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of water resources experience and should understand the ecologic and hydrologic processes important to ecosystem restoration, water quality, and stormwater management in the southeastern United States. To create a near-water experience at Long Creek Greenway, we chose to minimize the elevation of the pedestrian boardwalks and design them to accommodate flooding. This balanced approach maintains Mecklenburg County’s vision for nature-forward experiences and further connects greenway users to the wetlands and streams. Wildlands Engineering, Inc.

The alignment of Long Creek Greenway is intentionally designed to integrate with the delineated wetlands. The trail meanders throughout to preserve the stream’s ecosystem and enhance the pedestrian experience while minimizing impacts on the wetlands themselves. Wildlands Engineering, Inc.
