Both our health plan partners and our provider partners have highlighted for us the gaps in lactation services, which we know are critically important for expectant parents and breastfeeding families. Through our partnership with Cigna, Wildflower established a high-quality, broadly accessible network of lactation consultants for both virtual and in-person lactation care services nationwide. #lactation #virtualcare #breastfeeding #IBCLC #ThanksIBCLCs #womenshealth #maternity #maternalhealth

"The state of maternal health care in the United States is subpar. We spend the most for the worst outcomes, quality and inequities. It is really driven by systemic challenges having to do with the way our system is structured and paid for. That to us, I think for people like Dr. Naqvi and I, that is the promise of value-based care. Not just to change the dollar flows, but to change the systemic underpinnings of the mindset of how care is delivered, so that we can really nationally address this crisis that we're facing,” Leah Sparks. Where you live matters when it comes to the options available for maternity care. Maternity care deserts are counties where there is no access to birthing hospitals, birth centers offering obstetric care, or obstetric providers. The March of Dimes latest report?"Nowhere to Go: Maternity Care Deserts in the US" reveals that over 35% of counties are considered maternity care deserts. It's shocking to learn that over half of US counties do not have a hospital that provides obstetric care, and nearly 70% of birth centers are located within just ten states. These findings affirm that US systems, policies, and environments are failing moms and babies. We encourage you to read the report and learn how you may be impacted in your community https://lnkd.in/eUzfjmGV #maternity #maternalhealth #womenshealth #maternitydeserts #maternalhealthequity #valuebasedmaternitycare

An important part of improving maternal health outcomes within a given population is being proactive and staying ahead of complications that can lead to worse, and more costly, outcomes. We know a more comprehensive and dynamic approach to risk stratification can result in better care for mom and baby. For insight on how Wildflower approaches risk within value-based maternity care models and what we've learned from real world application of this strategy, check out our latest Wildflower News & Views Newsletter. #maternalhealth #maternity #valuebasedmaternitycare #valuebasedcare #riskstratification #healthcare #digitalhealth #healthcareinnovation #pregnancy #healthequity #sdoh

"The real opportunity for innovators is to not necessarily be perceived as a point solution, but as something that is really helping the existing system to go beyond being transactional and meeting broader needs of, in this case, women. And I think that's a really important distinction that we as an industry need to acknowledge," Leah Sparks said in a recent podcast with Oliver Wyman Health.
