Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

关于我们

About the Wikimedia Foundation The Wikimedia Foundation is the nonprofit organization that operates Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia free knowledge projects. Our vision is a world in which every single human can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. We believe that everyone has the potential to contribute something to our shared knowledge, and that everyone should be able to access that knowledge freely. We host Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects, build software experiences for reading, contributing, and sharing Wikimedia content, support the volunteer communities and partners who make Wikimedia possible, and advocate for policies that enable Wikimedia and free knowledge to thrive. The Wikimedia Foundation is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that relies on donations. We receive donations from millions of individuals around the world, with an average donation of about $15. We also receive donations through institutional grants and gifts. The Wikimedia Foundation is a United States 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization with offices in San Francisco, California, USA.

?? Happy 21st birthday, Wikisource! Wikisource began in November 2003 as a collection of supporting texts for articles in Wikipedia. Since then, it has evolved into a proper Wikimedia project: a rich, free online library of source texts and translations. What started as a historical archive is now a multilingual library hosting texts of all kinds, expanding access to knowledge, literature, and culture for everyone around the world. Wikisource contributors will get together in person to celebrate the project and explore its future. ?? The Wikisource Conference 2025 is currently planned to take place in Indonesia from 14 to 16 February. Stay tuned for more news! Discover Wikisource ?? https://w.wiki/89YY

How do you bring people together to share knowledge across borders through thoughtful and inspiring event design? At the Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2024 in Istanbul, over 200 participants from Central and Eastern Europe gathered to celebrate community, culture, and collaboration. This year’s meeting was more than just an event – it was a thoughtfully crafted experience, with each design element contributing to an atmosphere of connection and inspiration. At the center of this immersive experience was the work of Caner ?zyay?k?? – a Turkish Wikimedian, also known as User:Kurmanbek, a graphic designer, photographer, and the 2024 Media Contributor of the Year. His event design, inspired by Istanbul’s architectural beauty and the Bosporus, transformed the meeting’s visuals, from the logo to communication materials, into a vibrant celebration of CEE heritage and unity. This unique event design was more than just an aesthetic choice; it created a welcoming space for participants to connect, explore content diversity, and discuss ways to strengthen Wikimedia’s impact in the region. Through its visual storytelling, the event reinforced a powerful message: together, we can build a more inclusive and equitable future. ?? 500+ photos to preserve history! The Wiki Takes Archaeology event in the Spanish provinces of Burgos and Segovia brought together archaeologists, historians, photographers, and local volunteers to document rural and archaeological heritage. A gravestone is not just a marker of the past; it is a treasure trove of forgotten history. In Indonesia, Wikimedian Jerome Mikhael works with these stones like they are archives, tapping into them to verify historical figures’ dates of birth and death, honorific titles, and other personal information. Jerome got started in 2022, when he stumbled upon an archived database of national heroes’ graves on a defunct government website. This resource helped him fill in missing details on several Wikipedia biographies. Inspired by this, he launched the WikiPatriot project in 2023 to document the graves at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. With support from Wikimedia Indonesia, his team collected key data from hundreds of gravestones, enriching Wikipedia with detailed historical records. In just two days, the team documented around 200 gravestones. Guided by cemetery staff, they meticulously photographed and recorded information from each grave, including unlisted ones deemed notable for Wikipedia articles. The team took over 1,200 photos, preserving valuable historical data for future editing on Wikipedia.
