The Edgewood Middle School renovation embraces learning, inclusion, and community pride by revitalizing the original structure rather than rebuilding. The fa?ade’s vibrant colors and additional windows create a welcoming, light-filled environment, while the heart of the design—a three-story Learning Commons and Media Center inspired by a tree canopy—connects student levels and fosters social and intellectual growth with its open Learning Stair and walkways. Edgewood Middle School has been named a 2024 Local Market Leadership Award recipient by U.S. Green Building Council. It's our honor to work with clients like Northshore School District 112 to show, through action, how healthy buildings, communities, and sustainable practices can improve quality of life for those around them. Our work at the Crisis Recovery Center (CRC) focuses on creating an environment that supports individuals during a behavioral health crisis. By incorporating elements of design that actively contribute to the mental and emotional well-being of occupants, we aim to lower stress, create a sense of safety, and enable compassionate decision-making for both staff and visitors. We’re honored to be part of this mission with the DuPage County Health Department, working to ensure our community has a place of support. We recently conducted a redesign study for the ground floor lobby at 1333 N Kingsbury. This four-story, 100,000-square-foot building, originally built in 1890 as a factory for waterbed frames, has been a key part of Structured Development’s history since its first conversion to office space in 1991. Structured Development recently repurchased the building, and we were thrilled to reimagine the lobby to appeal to today’s loft-office tenants. Our team held a design charrette to brainstorm ideas, focusing on creating an inviting, sensory-rich experience for tenants and visitors. Emerging themes included a multi-functional co-working space, preserving the building's authentic brick and timber, and incorporating design elements inspired by the neighborhood. We also explored ideas for improving circulation with a metal mesh screen feature, adding art and biophilic elements. The final renderings, which debuted at last week’s re-opening event, have already received enthusiastic feedback. We look forward to continuing our work with Structured Development on the next steps to bring this vision to life. https://lnkd.in/gE_vMRYp
