Happy Sunday! This weekend has been a time for deep reflection before diving into the upcoming work week and travel. ?? ?? Last month, I was excited to speak at Wide Angle Youth Media, an incredible organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of Baltimore’s youth through media arts education. It was inspiring to engage with such a talented group of designers and explore the multidisciplinary pathways that exist within creative careers. A big thank you to Dan Flounders for the invitation and his unwavering commitment to fostering design community and leadership. I also want to extend my gratitude to De'Shaun F. for the thoughtful thank you package—it truly made my day! Looking forward to seeing all the amazing work ahead for such a special organization and team!

Julius Coker we’re so grateful you chose to spend your first summer in Baltimore with our team! Thank you for supporting our community programming at Village Learning Place and tabling at events across the city.?We’re excited to see all the amazing things you’ll achieve in the future. ??
This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Wide Angle Youth Media (WAYM)as part of the Community Impact Internship Program (CIIP) through the Center for Social Concern, Johns Hopkins University. The CIIP is a competitive, paid summer internship that pairs JHU undergraduate students with nonprofit organizations and government agencies and offers an intensive, cohort-based learning environment. With this experience, I was paired with WAYM–a remarkable organization that amplifies the voices of Baltimore youth–fostering creativity and confidence to help students navigate school, career, and life through engagement in media arts including photography, videography, claymation, animation, and design. During my time at WAYM, I was afforded the chance to engage with the Baltimore community meaningfully by accompanying my supervisor, Jake Saltzberg, to various tabling events throughout the city including one on Capitol Hill through the National AfterSchool Association (NAA).? It was an honor to be part of an event where Senator Bernie Sanders spoke about the positive impact of afterschool programs for youth and their public health benefits. A specific highlight of my work was witnessing the art of WAYM’s talented MediaWorks students and being inspired by them to improve my skills in creative media. In this venture, I wanted to thank my coworkers and supervisors Darian Jones and Beth Holladay at WAYM who fostered my photography, editing, and Photoshop development. In a final acknowledgment, I wanted to thank Michael Rush, CIIP, and The Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern for allowing me to be in the community and spend my first summer in Baltimore.
