Founded in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. Our mission is to build homes, communities, and hope. We work to eliminate substandard housing by providing simple, decent homes for families in need. By providing a hand-up rather than a hand-out. Habitat helps families realize their dream of owning a home. Families who qualify are able to experience homeownership through a commitment of sweat equity, a 30-year low interest mortgage and the expectation that they will continue to support other Habitat projects. Since 1987 we have served over 90 families with affordable home ownership. Each year, nearly 700 volunteers serve our mission with their hearts and hands helping us build and rehab homes for low-income families. We also link repair programs to low-income homeowners and fund repair projects to low-income homeowners, having completed 126 repairs since 2013. We fund the mission with proceeds from our two ReStore thrift shops, mortgage repayments as well as generous donations from individuals and business donations, charitable grants, foundations, and special events. Our signature annual event is Chefs for Habitat, which occurs every winter. Properties are acquired through donations, purchases from landowners or an agreement with local government, often with the aid of government grants. Habitat houses are built with volunteers working alongside the Habitat Partner Families.

Last Thursday, July 11, Wicomico Habitat celebrated the second ReStore in Fruitland, MD with a grand opening event ?? Wicomico Habitat is so thankful for all the supporters, community leaders, Wicomico Habitat staff, ReStore staff, volunteers, and shoppers that made this day so special. If you haven't visited the second ReStore yet, come stop by! The Fruitland ReStore is located in the same building as our administrative offices. The address is 105 N. Dulany Ave, Fruitland, MD. The Fruitland ReStore is open on Thursday and Friday from 10-4:30, and Saturday 9-4:30.

On Wednesday, May 29, Wicomico Habitat celebrated its new office and second ReStore location with a building blessing ceremony. Wicomico Habitat would like to thank all the invited donors, supporters, and local spiritual leaders who joined HFHWC staff in blessing this new building. Wicomico Habitat is excited to utilize this larger space and expand their service and mission of helping lower income families become homeowners.

Wicomico Habitat is so excited and deeply honored to be nominated for two Coastal Style Honors this year! The first nomination is for "Local Charity" and the second is "Local Charity Event" for our Chefs for Habitat Gala. This year's Chefs brought in $120,000 and was made possible by our amazing Gala Chefs; Celebrity Fundraisers; sponsors; auction item donors; and attendees. Even more exciting, one of Wicomico Habitat's lovely volunteers, Tammy Banachowski, has been nominated for "Local Charity Volunteer."
