    I define success?as making impact -- long-lasting impact that makes lives better, especially for those who need it most. The most successful people I know are the local peacebuilders I worked with at?Search for Common Ground and other unsung heroes dedicated to helping others.? I aspire to reach their level and build upon their success. I believe our team at Wicked Saints Studios is close. (That's right, keep an eye on us ??) In this interview with Makers, talk about my definition of success and that I had to learn how to speak to all definitions?of success. ?A while back, one of my investors challenged me about not talking about my successes more. "I haven't done what I've set out to do yet," I told him. He explained that it was a necessary part of reaching our goals. I'm a young black woman who has raised over $5M in venture capital. That puts me on a historic list. It shouldn't. But hey, that brings me full circle back to success. Success is changing enough hearts and minds that I'm just one of many --so common, it's not even worth counting.     #twopercent Women founders only receive 2% or less of venture capital (VC) funding, even though about half of all startups in the US are founded by women. Event though founding teams that include a woman outperformed by 35% ROI. In 2024, Black founders brought in 0.3% of venture funds (Crunchbase). Black women founders just got a sliver of that. So much of VC funding decision-making is a "feeling". Yes, everyone has their thesis. But half of my (amazing) investors have never invested in games. For some, it was actively against their policy to invest in games. At the early stage, so much of it comes down to whether they have confidence in the founder. Yes, they also need confidence in the team, the market, the product, the model...etc. But for a lot of that, they have to trust what the founder is telling them. They're looking for a gut feeling. I don't think VC's are maliciously withholding funds from women and BIPOC. I think it's human nature. We tend to go with what (and who) we're familiar with. Things (people + culture) we're unfamiliar with can make us uncomfortable. It can be harder to connect. It can be stressful--what if I say the wrong thing? My ask is next time an underrepresented founder is pitching you, and everything is making sense, but your gut is not there yet. Take an extra moment to examine why and where it's coming from. Give some non-judgmental space for yourself and the founder to get curious. ?? Ok, my rant is done! Thank you to the women who started this flash mob!!! Shelby Moledina

    Wrapping up #SFTechWeek, I must show gratitude to Eros Resmini and the the mini fund for hosting us at their event. Their Founders Spotlight panel featured the humbly wonderful Jason Citron, CEO of Discord, and myself of Wicked Saints Studios. We talked about advisors, making decisions, and making mistakes. Going down memory lane of how my advisors have helped me at every stage of starting/running a company made me realize I've been blessed with the most incredible advisors known to humankind. I have no doubt I'm where I am because of them.
