As a part of the WSU internship program with the foundation, future leaders have a ride-along with the Wichita Police Department. Our very own Natalie Ensz was honored to spend a shift with WPD Officer J. Barnett this week. Thank you Patrol North for allowing and hosting us.

As a part of the WSU internship program with the foundation, future leaders have a ride along with the Wichita Police Department. Our very own Rachel Cisneros was honored to spend an entire shift with WPD Officer Silva this week. Thank you Patrol North for allowing and hosting us.

It’s another Well Done Wednesday, and we want to commend our officers for their excellent work. Watch this video as officers utilize drones and our K9 unit to track and apprehend suspects fleeing after a traffic stop. You'll see how precise coordination and swift actions lead to the successful capture of individuals trying to evade law enforcement. This highlights the power of teamwork and innovation in keeping our community safe.

Officer Ditch has been with the Wichita Police Department for 9 years and is currently assigned to the juvenile intervention unit. We asked Officer Ditch the following questions: ??What did you do before becoming a police officer? ??I was in the United States Air Force. I was a K-9 handler and was stationed at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea.??What’s your favorite hobby when you are off duty???I love being outdoors with my family. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle. Again, a big thank you to WPD for taking a few minutes to share some insight.

Captain Dunham has been with the Wichita Fire Department for 26 years, and is currently assigned to Station 2. ????We asked Captain Dunham, the following questions. ??What’s your favorite thing about your job? My favorite thing is to get out and help people when they need it the most. They are always happy to see us. I also like the fact that it’s something different everyday. ??What are your phobias? I absolutely hate spiders, especially the brown recluse and black widows. Again, a big thank you to WFD for taking a few minutes to share some insight.

For a class paper, our very own Cecilia Nguyen - WSU student intern, worked on her assignment today with WPD Officer Penner. Ride-alongs serve as an educational purpose in our community to assist with a more comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement. Cecilia indicated the case she was observing today was so interesting she stayed on shift with WPD for a few extra hours. What a tremendous day for Cecilia. Thank you WPD Patrol North. A+. Detective Nguyen has been with the Wichita Police Department for 27 years and is currently assigned to the Larceny Unit. ????We asked Detective Nguyen the following questions:??What advice would you give someone interested in becoming a police officer??? First of all, it’s very important to get your high school diploma. It can be easier if you have a college degree if, in the future, you want to get promoted. I would also suggest to do multiple ride-alongs to ensure that law enforcement is what you want to do. ??What are a few things at the top of your bucket list? ?? Travel and see the world. There is so much out there to see. Whether it be different cultures or lifestyles, I look forward to seeing as much as I can.
