(Stop) Just breathe... Be still. Take a moment to reflect and gather your thoughts and feelings before responding. “Taking a brief moment to collect ourselves, so we can respond calmly to a child’s behavior or big feelings that challenge us, is one way to help them regulate themselves in the moment.” Calm Down Strategies: ???? Expressing our emotions carefully, as adults, without creating harm or offending others, often requires learned (or unlearned) behavior, useful tools and skillful tactics, and lots and lots of practice! Our littles need that same grace and consideration when they are trying to process and express their big emotions: “Tantrums can feel like an unwarranted crisis... Because their language and critical thinking skills are still being developed, tantrums are often the only way babies and young children can express strong emotions." Learn more about the core concepts and practices in infant and early childhood mental health by watching WI-AIMH's micro-learning video, "Communication as Behavior," on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gHAZitWW #CommunicationAsBehavior #Tantrums #AdultChildRelationship #WIAIMH #MicroLearning #InfantAndEarlyChildhoodMentalHealth

Learning to get along with another person, even if that person is a young child or baby, takes time and attention. Through learning how to develop healthy attachment and attunement with the littles we care for, we can build strong bonds and establish positive, healthy relationships. “It’s important for caregivers to know that even when everything is going right, perfect attunement between two humans is incredibly rare. No one gets it right all the time, but you can continue to build attunement.” Learn more about how parents/caregivers can build, nurture and develop a strong bond between the babies and young children they care for by watching WI-AIMH's micro-learning video, "Attachment & Attunement," on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gpkRyVCV #AttachmentAndAttunement #AdultChildRelationship #WIAIMH #MicroLearning #InfantAndEarlyChildhoodMentalHealth

WI-AIMH is a voice for babies, and we are proud whenever we can share the hard work of our staff members out in the community lifting their voices on behalf of babies like Julie Betchkal, Pyramid Model Manager. Julie used her voice to speak for Wisconsin babies to highlight the importance of investing in high quality child care at the "Child Care in the Wisconsin State Budget and Beyond - What We Have, What We Need, and What We Can Do" panel and open discussion this month in Eau Claire. High quality child care includes support for the adults who care for them. Pyramid Model coaching, and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (Healthy Minds Healthy Children) are two proven investments that work for Wisconsin. Below is a list of the panelists, including two state legislatures. Thank you to Julia Bennker for organizing this event! We are each born with unique traits that make us who we are, which can also be known as temperament. Temperament is defined as a person's nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior. In this video, we discuss how adjusting to a child's temperament is useful in understanding their otherwise negatively perceived behavior: “Even small changes that honor a child’s temperament, such as slowing down for children who struggle with new experiences or creating predictable routines for children who struggle with change, can make a world of difference...” Learn more about how honoring a child's temperament can improve your interaction with them by watching WI-AIMH's micro-learning video, "Goodness of Fit," on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gCGu9s-z #GoodnessOfFit #Temperament #WIAIMH #MicroLearning #InfantAndEarlyChildhoodMentalHealth
