"Unlike traditional punitive measures [in schools, restorative] practices prioritize repairing direct and communal harm, fostering accountability, empathy, and community connection. This philosophy has historical roots in indigenous practices from around the world." Check out our latest blog post on the What and the Why of RJ in schools. "Restorative justice (RJ) is often misjudged as a “replacement for discipline,” but really, RJ should be about developing community within a school. Restorative practices have been adapted in schools from Indigenous customs built on strong communities so that when harm is done, the community is able to hold the doer of harm accountable in a meaningful way." - Stefan Singh, Student Thank you Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation for elevating student voice around Why Restorative Justice! https://lnkd.in/gw2hnQke #restorativejustice #restorativepractices #whyrj #whyrestorativejustice #restorativejusticeeducation #schools #studentvoice #voiceandchoice #schoolculture #teachers #peerledpractice #positiveyouthdevelopement

Bella Romero in the Greeley-Evans School District 6 is working hard to shift their culture to be more restorative. It’s one of 6 pilot sites we are supporting this year taking a deeper dive into what RJ looks like for them! Serving K-8 youth, this community has an exciting opportunity to start young and create a restorative experience throughout! Keep up the great work! #restorativejustice #professionaldevelopment #growthmindset #teachermodeling #schools #culture #teachers #youth #youthcentered #relationships #equity

Working in Summit School District is always a breath of fresh air! ??? Being back at Summit Middle School to further RP school wide was inspiring! Their educators are dedicated to cultivating an environment where everyone belongs. Feeding into Summit High School, their teachers and youth are accessing restorative spaces and practices throughout their secondary educational career! We’re so proud of both sites and look forward to supporting their continued growth! Our leadership team spent last week with the wonderful educators at Jefferson Junior High in the Greeley-Evans School District 6 Jefferson Junior is a 6-9th grade alternative school supporting the D6 students who need it most. For such a small school this place makes a huge impact. Focused on supporting youth to see a different path for themselves, Jeff Junior empowers youth experiencing oppression, trauma, gang or system involvement, and substance abuse. We are proud to be a part of their work for the next few years as they weave and sustain a restorative culture. #whyrj #restorativejustice #restorativepractices #leadership #changemakers Kristen Noble Shelby Demby

Let’s support strong social connections and teen mental health by providing a restorative framework where our young people can share with us and each other what’s real for them. Every class. Every school. #whyrj #whyrestorativejustice
Our data indicate that high percentages of teens are not turning to their parents for emotional support, and that the more depressed or anxious teens are, the less likely they are to reach out. Teens with anxiety or depression are more likely to lean on their friends (54%) than their parents (32%) or mental health professionals (27%). And yet, many teens also want their parents to be proactive about listening: 40% of teens in our Caring for the Caregivers report said that they wanted their parents to “reach out more to ask how [they’re] really doing and to really listen.” As one teen said about his parents: “Don’t only look at me through the keyhole. Open the door.“ As teachers, administrators, coaches, and friends, here's how we can help:??https://lnkd.in/ekBMna3r #supportingteens #mentalhealthmatters #caringcommunity
