We’re the Why Not? Foundation. Ignited by our co-founder, Russell Westbrook, our mission is to inspire the lives of young people, teach them to always ask themselves, “WHY NOT?” and help them to build the resilience to never give up. Our three core pillars aim to create pathways of empowerment for underserved communities in the areas of educational opportunities, workforce development and accessible mental health resources. Most recently, we’ve hosted our Why Not? Basketball Camp in Los Angeles, CA for ages 8-14, held our 4th Annual Poker Night with the WORLD POKER TOUR FOUNDATION and, in partnership with Little Kitchen Academy, established the Changing Lives from Scratch Fund which aims to provide grants and scholarships to kids and teens from underserved communities. Last week, Russell Westbrook and the Why Not? Foundation were proud to present The Epworth Foundation’s Daddy Bruce Randolph Feed-A-Family Thanksgiving event with a $20,000 donation. Each year, the Feed-A-Family meal giveaway aims to feed over 7,500 families in the Denver area. “We thank God for allowing Russell to be so generous” said Pastor Frank Jones, Executive Director of the Daddy Bruce Legacy Foundation. “And we are knowing that this is going to help feed a lot of people who otherwise might not get a chance to eat.” To learn more about The Epworth Foundation, visit: https://lnkd.in/gK-jd7Bn (??: Tom Hellauer/Denver Gazette)

Our Annual Thanksgiving Meal Distribution isn’t just a yearly tradition, but an opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate and enjoy the warmth from an incredible holiday meal. Our 13th annual event this week brought together friends, family and over 800 meals distributed at Jesse Owens Park in South LA. Thanks to all who supported this year's festivities — from guests, to volunteers,?Russell, Nina?and countless others. We can’t wait to serve even more meals next year! ????

A pleasure to join TEC LEIMERT, UCLA Technology and the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the Innovation, Culture & Creativity Workshop Series. Moderated by Jasmine Simpkins, our co-founder Russell Westbrook helped kick off Project ICC for a wide-ranging discussion on a myriad of topics within the innovation space. The project’s overarching goals are to example the role of regional culture in strengthening innovation ecosystems, support the continued competitiveness of America’s creative sector and develop new strategies to expand and diversify the country’s STEM workforce.

This year's tournament was our biggest yet with friends, family and poker professionals all hitting the tables for an amazing cause. All proceeds from Poker Night support the Why Not? Foundation in creating pathways of empowerment for underserved communities in South LA through our education, mental health, and workforce development initiatives. A monumental moment for?The Westbrook Academy,?Why Not? Foundation?and?LA Promise Fund. Couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished in South Gate with the opening of the brand new Westbrook Academy campus. When?Nina Westbrook,?Donnell Beverly Jr?and I partnered with LA Promise Fund in 2021, our goal was to serve South and Southeast Los Angeles by providing students with a strong education, leadership development opportunities and high-quality athletic programs. With our new expansion, students now have access to state-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, a film studio, student lounge, library and two wellness centers. The new facility comes years after our middle and high school operated out of temporary locations. Not only that, but our new campus features Legacy Rooms and murals throughout the hallways featuring local LA legends and social justice heroes including Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle, Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez. Currently enrolling Grades 6-12, it’s a dream come true to provide a safe place of learning, community and innovation in the area I call home.
