关于我们

Founded in 2004 by Kulapat Yantrasast, WHY is a multi-disciplinary design practice dedicated to creating connections between people, culture, and place. Our team is based in Los Angeles and New York City, and the practice is organized as five interdependent workshops: Buildings, Landscape, Museums, Objects, and Ideas. This unique cross-disciplinary structure enables us to work across multiple sectors and combine different forms of expertise, generating progressive solutions for projects ranging from museums to mixed-use developments, community arts centers to private residences. In recent years, WHY has gained a reputation as a thought-leader in the fields of cultural and civic architecture, winning global competitions including the Ross Pavilion and West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland, and taking on major cultural landmark projects such as the Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Perm, Russia.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Malcolm Reading Consultants have published the six finalist teams’ concepts in the competition to transform and expand The Nelson-Atkins Museum of?Art. The museum’s vision is crystallized as?‘Building Belonging’ – meaning a?place where all feel welcome to dream and explore; a?social space to hang out; a?destination where people can create community. The museum’s Board of Trustees aims to broaden the conventions of the museum – which offers free general admission – so it continues evolving as a?place where everyone feels they belong. The project will integrate the campus, the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park, and the two existing buildings into a?cohesive new experience. The WHY Architecture design team includes WILDING X WHY (Landscape Architect), TYLin Silman (Structural Engineering), Arup (MEP Engineering and Lighting), Atelier Ten (Sustainability), STRATA Architecture + Preservation (Heritage), Charcoalblue (Theater), Threshold Acoustics (Acoustics), and Olsson (Local Landscape Architect). View our proposal on the Malcolm Reading Consultants finalists' gallery: https://lnkd.in/dSXNugCU These concept designs are also on display in a?free presentation at the Nelson-Atkins through Spring?2025.

dib Bangkok, Thailand’s first major museum dedicated to international contemporary art, is set to open its doors in December 2025. Founded by the Osathanugrah family and designed by WHY Architecture, this three-story converted Bangkok warehouse will showcase significant Thai and international contemporary art, fostering creativity and learning for visitors from around the world. The inaugural exhibition will honor the legacy and artistic philosophy of the late Petch Osathanugrah by highlighting major works from the Dib Bangkok collection, including pieces by Montien Boonma, Lee Bul, Anselm Kiefer, Alicja Kwade, and other key artists whose works create a visual dialogue through the theme of "invisible presence". Nestled in the Rama IV-Kluaynamthai area, the museum spans three floors of exhibition space and follows a minimal yet nuanced design inspired by the Buddhist concept of enlightenment as visitors journey upwards. Dib’s inventive space will also include a “Chapel”—a cone-shaped gallery with a mosaic-tiled exterior, a 15,000-square-foot central courtyard, an outdoor sculpture garden, and a penthouse for special events. Led by Chairman and President Purat (Chang) O., and inaugural Director Dr. Miwako Tezuka, the museum holds a collection of over 1,000 works by more than 200 artists from Thailand and around the world challenges perceptions, sparks dialogue, and invites deep reflection on the complexities of human existence. #DibBangkok #FITZClient #bangkokartscene #contemporaryart
