We advocate for accelerating access to school-based school gardens, teaching kitchens, cognition-bolstering PE, outdoor and nature learning and mindful practices whose experiences and outcomes we call "Whole Health Learning." They constitute a school-based wellbeing infrastructure that includes thousands of schools, combining support for academic proficiency with mitigating stress, anxiety and traumas that underlie the youth mental health crisis. We convene events, collaborations and develop models with federal and NGO organizations.

At the “Harkin on Wellness” symposium April 3 at Drake U, our colleagues will describe how Whole Health Learning practices can offset kids’ mental duress: in the teaching kitchen (Wellness in the Schools co-founder Nancy Easton); in mindful practices (Inner Explorer co-founder Laura Bakosh); in school gardens (Waukee Iowa Schools coordinator Kaitlyn Scheurmann); and in rapidly greening school grounds (Children & Nature Network Green Schoolyards Director Priya Cook).
