An education of the Mind and Heart to prepare future physical therapists to serve others.

关于我们

Our Whitworth University Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) graduates integrate mind, heart and hands as movement system experts. Their professional roles embody reflective servant leadership, global citizenship, and integration of faith and learning, to challenge the injustices of societies and the inequities of health systems. Graduates join the faculty as an inclusive community of scholars, engaged in critical inquiry to empower innovation and clinical reasoning that optimizes the human experience throughout the lifespan and advances the profession of physical therapy. Accreditation Status Whitworth University is seeking accreditation of a new Doctor of Physical Therapy program from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The program is planning to submit an Application for Candidacy, which is the formal application required in the pre-accreditation stage, in March 2022. Submission of this document does not assure that the program will be granted Candidate for Accreditation status. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status is required prior to implementation of the professional phase of the program; therefore, no students may be enrolled in the professional courses until Candidate for Accreditation status has been achieved. Further, though achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation. For general questions about the DPT program, please email [email protected].

Our School of Health Sciences is dedicated to preparing students to become healthcare professionals who care for the whole patient, utilizing both mind and heart. This week, students had a wonderful opportunity to learn what holistic healthcare looks like from a patient and her doctors. Assistant Professor Emerita of Education Anne Wilcox had heart surgery this summer and organized a panel discussion with her heart surgeons, who she says provided incredible holistic care throughout her experience, including having conversations about faith. ? Dr. Justin Reeves, a cardiothoracic surgeon, and Dr. David Appel, an interventional cardiac surgeon, recounted for our students how they strive to provide compassionate care for their patients. Students from our doctor of physical and occupational therapy programs, senior health science majors, and pre-med students all attended. We thank Anne and her doctors for participating in this valuable discussion!

  • Dr. Fitz attended the annual Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy (ANPT) conference in Columbus, OH, where she presented research on a proposed framework for Dizziness Neuroscience Education, developed with assistance from Katriel Sahlstrom, Wes Turk and Kaitlyn Vondran from the class of 2025. She also learned about the latest evidence and topics in Neurologic Physical Therapy, and she looks forward to integrating the material into her teaching and clinical practice! #whitworthuniversity #physicaltherapy
