Recently, Whitmore joined our local partner in New Zealand, Industrial Lubrication Services (ILS), during the KiwiRail 3-day track isolation across their rail network. KiwiRail will soon embark on one of the biggest rail lubrication projects in its history, targeting the reduction of noise in highlighted areas and addressing the areas of high friction between the train wheels and the gauge corner/head of the rail.
?
Representatives from Whitmore and ILS held meetings in Auckland and Wellington with stakeholders from KiwiRail to discuss how the new Whitmore Trackside Applicators will help tackle RCF (Rolling Contact Fatigue) and side wear, whilst also dealing with the issue of flange wear on the wheels.
?
Glen Clark, General Manager for ILS, “ILS was selected by KiwiRail to deliver its lubrication strategy for the Auckland City rail network, including the City Rail Link (CRL) opening in 2026. The Top of Rail (TOR) trials are of particular interest, and with the support of Whitmore, we hope to provide KiwiRail with results that they can take back to residents affected by noise on the railway.” Magan Jimale, Global Business Development Manager for Whitmore - Rail, “These track scoping visits have shown there is a clear plan from KiwiRail to improve conditions across their network. With usage of drones and sophisticated sound/camera measurement devices, Whitmore and ILS will have important data references which will act as a benchmark for the new Trackside Applicators. We are excited to see the positive impact they will have across the Network.”
?
We extend thanks to our partner ILS for the incredible work they are doing, and the support from engineers at KiwiRail during the track scoping – their input was invaluable.
