?? Exciting News for Kanoelani Elementary! ?? WhiteSpace Architects is proud to celebrate the completion of the new outdoor pavilion at Kanoelani Elementary School in Waipio! Designed with flexibility and community in mind, this open-air space provides a versatile setting for assemblies, outdoor learning, and performances – bringing the entire school together, rain or shine. Meanwhile, renovations for the school’s cafeteria are well underway and set for completion in fall 2025. Once finished, the expanded cafeteria will allow all 750 students to enjoy lunch in just two periods, eliminating the need for early 10:30 a.m. meals and providing more opportunities for meaningful learning experiences throughout the day. Mahalo to Principal Neil Blomberg for his leadership and to Stacie Kunihisa, whose vision helped bring this project to life. We’re honored to support the Kanoelani ‘ohana in shaping brighter futures for Hawai‘i’s keiki! #WhiteSpaceArchitects #KanoelaniElementary #HawaiiArchitecture

It's all in the details ?. WhiteSpace's stunning design for the Niuiki Residence incorporates a graceful interior lava rock wall that leads to a hidden hallway for access to more private spaces, while the open living areas retain full focus, flowing naturally between the back and front yards. Thoughtful natural materials pay tribute to the beauty of its natural surroundings. #architecture #designdetails #homedesign

Every time we design a home at WhiteSpace Architects, we discuss the exact positioning of the property and how light, breezes and other natural elements will flow through it. The Portlock Residence exemplifies focus on strategic and sustainable flow in a residential layout. Every room in this residence opens up beautifully to the outdoors, allowing fresh island breezes and the soothing sounds of the ocean to flow throughout. #designflow #architecturaldesign #homedesign

?? As fairgoers enjoy the excitement of the Pā‘ina Paniolo Punahou Carnival this weekend, we’re thrilled about the progress happening on the construction of the Academy Learning Commons. See our previous post for a peek behind the construction privacy walls! The Mary Kawena Pukui Learning Commons is a complete overhaul and expansion of the School’s 1964 Cooke Library, with a projected opening in 2026. The new LEED certified sustainable design will create collaborative new spaces for learning and innovation, dramatically increase indoor and outdoor gathering areas and enhance project-based learning. We invite you to visit the construction space West of Middle Field (Rice Field). A QR code out front provides more information about the space for those who would like to learn more. Plus, you can see these beautiful paintings by staff and students on the construction wall surrounding the site! WhiteSpace staff will also be volunteering at the smoothie booth. See you there! #punahoucarnival?#painapaniolo?#punahoucarnival2025

WhiteSpace Architects is currently overseeing the construction of Punahou School’s Mary Kawena Pukui Learning Commons, a state-of-the-art center designed for collaborative and individual learning. The Mary Kawena Pukui Learning Commons was designed as a 53,840-square-foot intellectual hub by WhiteSpace Architects’ Laura Ayers and Shawn Halvorson, as well as our late founder Philip “Pip” White. We are excited to see this very special building beginning to take shape as it undergoes construction!

From sketch to structure! Our team took a once-graffiti-covered building at 40 S School Street, originally built in 1963, and transformed it into a sleek, sustainable commercial center. With a LEED Silver Certification, rooftop garden, and innovative green strategies, this revitalized space now serves as a symbol of what’s possible when we reinvest in our community's architectural heritage. #commercialrenovation #hawaiibuilding #architecturalsketch
