The experience of Gen Z federal workers just terminated from their jobs has been particularly sad and difficult. Across the U.S., thousands of people who worked for the government, or supported it as an independent contractor, are reckoning with sudden unemployment. But the particular experience of the youngest cohort in the federal workforce, Gen Z, has been especially rough. Many of those "reduced-in-force" were on the job for just a few weeks or months. They were just starting their careers in government service. This week on WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT?, our guest Mika Cross spoke to the heart-wrenching experiences of these downsized Gen Z feds while offering them next steps to consider to transition to new work experiences. Watch the clip to discover her important insight. Mika is a much-quoted-in-the-news Workplace Transformation Strategist, Work Futurist, and leading expert on the Federal Government workforce and workplace.?And she, like me, is a founding member of The Future of Work Alliance. If you are a former federal worker, or you supported a government agency as a federal contractor, then you are surely up half the overnight worried about your immediate future. When work becomes a wonderful part of the day doing other wonderful things that's a work fit. And when it happens, our best days lie ahead. Chin up, everyone! You've got this! #futureofwork #workfit #federalworker #genz #careerpodcast

  • We Are in a New Age of Workplace Experimentation ...

Executive Producer and Show Host of WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? I help you make your work and workplace decisions result in better and more satisfying professional experiences and outcomes.

We Are in a New Age of Workplace Experimentation. As I started producing this new season of the WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? live show, I became ever mindful of the themes that bubble up from the topical discussions with our guests. And in 2025, with so much discussion around #RTO, federal sector job loss, workplace disengagement, and agentic AI, one theme in particular rose above the rest. And it is this: Workplace Experimentation. The Covid lockdowns that started five years ago this month got millions of us comfortable with testing the efficacies of novel work practices, from remote and hybrid workplaces...and Zoom...to the bold idea of breaking up the long adhered to uninterrupted eight-hour or longer knowledge worker work day. Our new age of workplace experimentation touches every aspect of our work experience, to inform: ?? Where, when, why, and how we gather ?? Team leadership and ideation ?? Leveraging AI to free us from tedious, time consuming work ?? Continual skill development and learning ?? A culture of trust and positive engagement ...and much more. The first 15 years of my career were in the ad agency space where my singular focus was on establishing success with direct and digital marketing next practices. The sophisticated campaigns that I managed for my clients were segmented to test different offers and pricing strategies, copy treatments, mail piece formats, etc., all executed to "beat the control" or the incumbent best marketing campaign. So, I've been hardwired to experiment on the job nearly my entire career. What's really refreshing is that, in 2025, many career professionals are staging experiments of various design and intention to help them and their team members create better work and workplace outcomes. And in doing so, they are getting comfortable with the high probability of failure. It would be hard to imagine celebrations of failure finding acceptance in the pre-Covid workplace. Yet now, in fully appreciating the things that went boom, and supporting insight gathered to explain what had gone wrong, we are attaining better and more enduring work and workplace success. When work and workplace experimentation gains broad-scale acceptance, we help ourselves and others find work fit, where work becomes a wonderful part of the day doing other wonderful things. And when that happens our best days lie ahead. Note: Image in this post created from our prompt on ChatGPT, 3/22/2025. #futureofwork #modernwork #workfit #AgenticAI #Experimentation

We're not in one workplace, so how do we achieve Agile Employee Emotional Intelligence? That was the question posed by WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? live show viewer Nicole for our guest, BRANDthrō CEO Billee Howard, to answer. In this clip, Billee indicates that the purposes of all of this is not to make employees more agile, but rather to use Agile Employee Emotional Intelligence to help companies understand what matters most to their employees so that they build better cultures and experiences that more talent want to have. How Does Agile Employee Emotional Intelligence Create Better Workplaces? That's the question we asked BRANDthrō CEO Billee Howard on this week's WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? live show. As the latest LinkedIn Workforce Confidence Tracking Study points out, worker confidence and engagement have "hit new lows not even seen during the early months of the pandemic." Thus, it is imperative that company leaders employ Agile Employee Emotional Intelligence now to create better workplaces and boost worker engagement. In this clip, Billee describes the features and key benefits of it all. When work becomes a wonderful part of the day doing other wonderful things that's a work fit. And when that happens, our best days lie ahead.
