I’ve lived many lives within the health and fitness industry: Strength Coach / Trainer -> Writer -> Editor -> Sr Brand Manager -> GNC Category Director -> Consultant -> PhD Grad Student -> Chief Science Officer -> Research Professor -> VP of Scientific Affairs -> ??? Like fitness and life itself - dependent upon progressive overload to stimulate adaptation and resilience - if you’re not challenging your limits and reinventing yourself then you’re probably no longer relevant and you’re almost certainly not growing. In fact, in my experience, those that aren’t challenging themselves make a career out of only challenging and assuming of others what they themselves could not achieve. Thereby, being the albatrosses of an organization, a brand, and the trade. Me? I’m driven by idealistic and inventive passion; almost certainly fueled by high-octane imposter syndrome. Case in point, spending 3.5 weeks working non-stop, in the lab by 3:30am, wrapping up on most days at 11:30pm, “sleeping” on a massage table or in a bunk bed (within a shared cabin of snorers), and excited and ready to motivate every subject and engage in every student discussion, regardless of the time. Why? Because what I get to do matters and is so much cooler than what you do! This was the 4th IRB Approved study completed from the new Nutrabolt Lab, located on the UHP FitOps campus just outside of Bentonville, AR. I built this lab less than 12 months ago and we’ve already achieved its ROI. Better still, I hope my own investment has helped light a passion in the next generation of health and fitness enthusiasts that can take the torch and light the way for many more than our current collective is capable of reaching.
