#RightsCon is nearly over, and so is our supply of WTF stickers. It's been invigorating to connect with others on so many important issues around internet integrity, especially our multi-stakeholder efforts to create #MonetizationPrinciples. If you weren't at #RightsCon2025 but you want to connect, check us out at www.whattofix.tech or say [email protected].

Social media has been a game changer for the advertising industry. As Europe leads the charge to regulate the digital advertising space, platforms are inconsistently rolling out tools and solutions in various contexts, with critical (and, at times, unintended) consequences. Our final #RightsCon panel is a must for anyone interested in social media advertising under different regulatory frameworks, and how the EU's #DSA reverberates around the world. #RightsCon2025

As long as platforms keep experiencing double digit revenue growth and reporting profit in the $ billions, can we really expect them to care about what goes on on their platforms? Can we?quantify the financial impact of hate and #disinformation? For those at #RightsCon, please join Victoire Rio, Aindriya Barua, Yatharth Yatharth and Wathshlah Naidu Thursday morning for this interactive workshop. #RightsCon25

What a great morning! Thanks to everyone who joined us this AM for WHAT TO FIX Executive Director Victoire Rio's #RightsCon lightning talk on how social media ad revenue redistribution programs (it’s a mouthful, we know…) oversee billions of $ of fund transfers with almost no oversight or accountability. Our presentation was, of course, lightning fast, so if you’d like to dig in deeper: Read our 2025 report here:? https://lnkd.in/gycJc5Dh And our baseline report here: https://lnkd.in/dzYQ6Wg9 #RightsCon2025

Ever looked into how platforms disclose government requests for content moderation and access to user data? What if we told you that those requests are massively under-reported? Join Victoire Rio, Vladimir Chorny, Agneris Sampieri and Dan Hoang on Wednesday for a #RightsCon workshop hosted by?R3D: Red en Defensa de los Derechos Digitales and Access Now to explore how platforms are under-reporting government requests and discuss strategies on how to expose the scale of this under-reporting. #RightsCon25

Thanks to all who came out to this morning’s #MonetizationPrinciples workshop here at #RightsCon2025 in Taipei! We’re thrilled to see we’re not the only ones enthusiastic about ensuring transparency and accountability when it comes to the billions of $ channeling through social media platforms via revenue redistribution programs. Weren’t able to attend the workshop? There’s still work to do on these principles, so make sure to follow us here, or just say [email protected] #RightsCon

Did you know that more than 6 million social media accounts are generating revenue directly from platforms? Social media companies process millions of fund transfers worth billions of $ every month, with almost no oversight or accountability. What could possibly go wrong?! Find out tomorrow morning at this #RightsCon2025 lightning talk with WHAT TO FIX Executive Director Victoire Rio. #RightsCon

??New Report?? Our new deck tracking trends in social media monetization - and zeroing in on ad revenue sharing - is out. We’re talking over $20b redistributed to millions of accounts thru revenue share programs, with minimal public disclosure or regulation. Here's what you need to know: ?? Social platforms have never been more profitable. Global social media ad spend hit $252.7B in 2024, up 19.3%. Meta's revenue was up 22% at $160bn. ?? Platforms redistributed an estimated $20 billion to over 6 million accounts in 2024. Revenue share programs are surging, with millions more signing up and platforms actively competing over established and promising creators. ?? Social media revenue redistribution programs remain a messy, opaque business with few public disclosures, conflicting fine print, and vague rules. We're looking forward to discussing these trends - and work towards #MonetizationPrinciples - at #RightsCon2025 next week. Download the full report ??https://lnkd.in/gycJc5Dh
