We had such a blast celebrating 7 years of Purpose Driven Sisters at its fashion show and honors ceremony last weekend! WGIRLS volunteers served food and sold raffle tickets during the event. We were honored to receive an award from the organization for our volunteer support. We are excited to continue to champion their mission to empower young women through our 2025 spring gala! Help a student's prom dreams come true and donate new or gently used dresses, shoes, jewelry, or accessories to the Cinderella Project MKE! The Cinderella Project MKE is a charitable organization that provides self esteem workshops and FREE prom dresses to deserving girls in need. Drop-off is between 5-8 PM February 14, 21, and 28 at 1107 W. Historic Mitchell St., Milwaukee, WI. There will be a barrel at the top of the stairs. February is #BlackHistoryMonth. During this month, we honor the history, achievements, and contributions of African Americans. Here are a few ways to celebrate: ?? Learn about Black history. Visit the America's Black Holocaust Museum and Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum to step into the history of Blacks in America. ?? Celebrate Black art and artists. View the Dr. James Cameron Pamphlet Collection at the Milwaukee Public Library or the Richard and Erna Flagg Collection at the Milwaukee Art Museum to view pieces representative of Black culture. ?? Support Black-owned businesses. From the Milwaukee Wine Academy to the Sherman Phoenix Marketplace, there are countless opportunities to support local Black entrepreneurs. Our first volunteer event is right around the corner! WGIRLS will be joining Royal Family KIDS - Hartland at its winter camp party. Volunteers will staff a game/craft/food & beverage table for Royal Family KIDS campers. Royal Family KIDS works to create positive memories for children ages 7-11 who have suffered relational trauma, neglect, abuse, abandonment, or are in out-of-home care. It offers camps and mentorship programs where children are encouraged to discover their self-worth, talents, and unique abilities through activities designed especially for them. As we honor the incredible achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. today, consider what impact you can make in your community. Per the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 24% of Milwaukee is below the poverty line. Giving back can look like volunteering at a homeless shelter, donating to a food pantry, helping nonprofits providing critical services, or uplifting the underserved.
