Please help us give a big THANK YOU to Simply Healthcare Plans for their generous sponsorship for our Back to School Bash. Simply Healthcare sponsored our socks and underwear giveaway . . . very important for children going back to school. Fun fact, we gave away every single package of underwear that we had for this event, and just about every single pair of socks!! It was such a joy to see all of these items go directly into the hands of children in care. Simply Healthcare Plans also hosted a donation drive, collecting an extraordinary amount of school supplies as well. These children will be ready to start school having everything they need thanks to the thoughtful generosity of Simply Healthcare and their team.

This group of volunteers was incredible, and put in a lot of hard work helping us clean and organize our storage units, one of which also houses our Birthday Closet for children in care. We ?? volunteers, and our community is making such an impact for local foster families. #bettertogether #fostercare #fostercarehillsboroughcounty

We are in need of a larger space to host our foster closet in the Riverview/Brandon area. We have long outgrown our current donated space. If you have space, have a connection, or know of a church or community organization that may have unused space, please reach out to Janet Rinaldi, jrinaldi@wffcs.org or 727-919-1786.

Incredible experience today joining Hillsborough County’s Duffles of Dignity at the annual National Association of Counties conference. Attendees from all over the country filled duffle bags with necessities for children in foster care and in need. We were able to share with everyone participating that many of these items will go directly into the hands of children in care next weekend at our Back to School Bash! Thank you Craig Jewesak for your commitment to making a difference in our community. #dufflesofdignity #everyonecandosomething #hillsboroughcounty #fostercare

So well said. Thank you for sharing, Beck Thompson, we can all learn so much from this.
I can give you all the trauma informed lingo, even throw in a bit of basic neuroscience AND even supporting details about attachment theory to try and convince you why we need to care and support our children, but at the end of the day, from my own lived experience of childhood trauma, abuse, and parental neglect, the ONE thing I wish for all educators and society at large to understand is this; if we want children to grow in to healthy, well-adjusted individuals with a safe and trusting sense of self to be able to relate and live well in society WE must all acknowledge that WE are all part of that outcome. Every interaction, every consistent and loving and supportive and trusting interaction from people consistently present in a child's life WILL and DOES make a difference. Children are shaped by those around them. Children develop a sense of self through others. Our influence, our behaviours, our interactions absolutely matter. And if we want to test that theory for ourselves, think about who influenced you growing up. Who believed in you? Who influenced you? Who was there to guide, support, nurture you? Who did you share your problems with? Who was there to catch you when you fell? Who was there to share your in your achievements? Who showed up? Who was there when you laughed or cried? WHO WAS THERE? For me it wasn't my caregivers. It was my teachers, from primary all the way to university. Beyond that, I found people who mentored and guided me over my 20's. Children NEED someone. Ideally parents, but hey, that doesn't always happen. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who shows up, someone has to And done consistently that child has a fighting chance to not just survive in the world but THRIVE. Isn't that what we want? To achieve a well functioning society our children NEED a community. A community that builds them up. THAT is why I preach the same thing over and over. What we do and how we do it matters. I am absolute living proof of what happens when a child is nurtured consistently over years despite being from a abusive childhood. Recovery is THROUGH positive nurturing relationships! #chasingnormalmemoir?#healing?#childhoodtrauma?#abuse?#teachersmatter?#schoolsmatter?#communitymatters?#relationshipsmatter #improof
