Our teams in Molalla and Lebanon, Ore., have reached a major milestone in our recovery efforts following the 2020 wildfires. Initial restoration from the Beachie Creek and Riverside Fires was expected to take up to five years but was recently completed over a year ahead of schedule. The teams worked hard to plant nearly 15 million seedlings across almost 50,000 acres, prioritizing streamside buffers and tributary connections essential for protecting water quality and reducing erosion. With the final seedlings in the ground, both sites are entering the second phase of recovery: long-term care and monitoring to ensure these Oregon forests grow and thrive for generations. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay https://lnkd.in/eACxHKQj

Today, we announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art TimberStrand? facility in south Arkansas. The project will be Weyerhaeuser's first greenfield facility in more than 20 years and greatly expand our production capacity for engineered wood products in the U.S. South. We expect to begin construction next year with the goal of starting operations in 2027. Read more about the planned facility: https://lnkd.in/euJVPyZM

At our Sutton oriented strand board plant in Heaters, West Virginia, 200,000 pounds of wood strands are dried in four sets of triple-pass dryers every hour. Equipment operators working on the dryers watch for variables that can affect the final product, such as slightly too much moisture, and make manual adjustments to the dryer temperature settings — though it can take 90 to 120 minutes for those adjustments to be reflected in the manufacturing line. “That’s where artificial intelligence comes in,” says James Liston, technical support engineer. “Our new AI system analyzes thousands of data points and automatically changes the dryer settings in response. It’s kind of like adaptive cruise control on a car.” Learn how this custom AI machine learning system, designed by Ai2Infinity, augments the skills and experience of our operators and helps improve the reliability of our OSB manufacturing process. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #innovation https://lnkd.in/eQkAZM4z

Earlier this year, our North Florida Mega Industrial Park hit a major milestone when it welcomed its first tenant, AgroLiquid, a Michigan-based fertilizer manufacturer with a strong philosophy of land stewardship. As the park grows, it will have a ripple effect in terms of job creation and increased spending on local goods and services, benefiting the residents of nearby Lake City and Columbia County. “This project is a great example of the benefits of public-private partnerships,” says Greg Galpin, senior planning manager for development projects at Weyerhaeuser. “It wouldn’t have happened without the support of the community at large, local officials who secured grants to support critical infrastructure, and state support.” Learn more about the positive impact of this new development. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay https://lnkd.in/ezEg2w3w

Millions of kids across America face big decisions when they graduate high school, and one challenge common to many students in rural communities is whether they’ll need to move to a bigger city to find career opportunities. But we believe that's not a choice students should have to make. “Through our partnership with Sustainable Forestry Initiative's Project Learning Tree, we’re sending a message to rural youth that they can have rewarding, well-paying careers in their own hometowns by working for a company like ours,” says Katie Hooker, corporate giving manager. “Sparking interest in our industry starts with nurturing a love for the outdoors and teaching kids about nature.” Learn more about this partnership and its impact. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #sustainableforestry https://lnkd.in/ehtAcPke

As a proud supporter of the Society of American Foresters, we're thankful for opportunities to both learn and share knowledge. Recently, two of our foresters, Kirk Owens and Yazmina Venegas, participated in the Active Management Tour in Idaho City. In addition to participating in robust discussions on a variety of forestry topics, they toured active operations in the Boise Basin Experimental Forest, timber sales with the Idaho Department of Lands, Lucky Peak Nursery and thinning operations on privately owned land. Thank you to Intermountain Chapter for the Society of American Foresters for hosting an incredible learning event!

Did you know that wood products continue to store carbon for their useful life and beyond? The solid and engineered wood products we made in 2023 alone will keep an average of 10 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent out of the atmosphere over the next 100 years. That’s the equivalent to the carbon emission from 1.3 million homes’ energy use each year. Through the cycle of harvesting and replanting, wood products from sustainably managed forests are part of an ever-increasing equation that pulls carbon out of the atmosphere over time. Read more about it in our Carbon Record https://lnkd.in/gz5KSSeM. #sustainableforestry #woodproducts #climatesmart

Our Giving Fund Committee in Lebanon, Oregon, is proud to support Native American students in engaging with their culture through a Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund grant. Administered by the Lebanon Community School District (Oregon), the program offers opportunities for students and families to connect with their heritage through events, workshops and mentorship.? ? Recently, students created shirts to commemorate Orange Shirt Day, along with ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts and traditional bone pipe necklaces. For many Native American cultures, ribbon skirts represent the sacredness of women and the cycles of life, and they remain an important symbol today. Students now wear ribbon skirts and bone pipe necklaces during ceremonial events and at school to express their cultural pride. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Earlier this year, a Fairfield, Idaho, organization called Camp Rainbow Gold Inc introduced a bold idea: to build six cabins in just three days to increase the safe and accessible housing options at their medical camp, Hidden Paradise. “Camp Rainbow Gold’s mission really resonates with us,” says Melinda Stiefel, Distribution marketing and branding manager and chair of our Boise distribution center’s employee-driven community engagement group. “We’re thrilled we were able to play a role in making Project Gold a reality.” Thanks in part to a donation from Weyerhaeuser, Hidden Paradise has more housing available to pediatric cancer patients, their families, and thousands more Idahoans each year so visitors of all ages and abilities can immerse themselves in nature.
