This #WomensHistoryMonth, we're celebrating the life and legacy of artist Nancy Holt (1938–2014). For five decades, Holt worked across media, including sculpture, works on paper, film, and photography. She described herself as a perception artist, exploring how we observe the world around us. Nancy Holt: Power Systems at the Wexner Center for the Arts features works surrounding Holt's exploration of natural and human-made sources of power. In 1984 Nancy Holt was recruited to design the reclamation of a massive landfill four miles from Manhattan, New York. She developed "Sky Mound"—an earthwork that would mitigate environmental damage and transform the landfill into a sculptural observatory. Holt saw "Sky Mound" as a model for thinking about how to open our eyes to the waste that we create. Featured in the galleries are numerous drawings and images of Holt's plans for "Sky Mound." Throughout this month, we'll share more about Holt’s exploration of perception and systems. Check back on social to see more about artist Nancy Holt and plan your visit to the exhibition at WexArts.info/PowerSystems. #NancyHolt #PowerSystems #HoltSmithsonFoundation — Nancy Holt at the site of Sky Mound in 1985. Columbus animator Benny Zelkowicz will introduce his new film THE SACRED SOCIETY at the Wexner Center for the Arts Tuesday, March 4 at 7pm. The film was made with the support of an Ohio Humanities Film Fellowship at the Wex grant as well as post-production support from the Wex's Film/Video Studio residency. It's a beautiful example of the sand animation technique. #animation https://lnkd.in/g6Csma5v

Congratulations to our Director of Technical Services, John Smith, on his retirement from Wexner Center for the Arts. John started his career at the center when the building first opened in 1989—and he has left a lasting legacy on the work at the Wex. For over 35 years, John has been involved in ambitious and innovative creative work from artists, performers, educators, and filmmakers. As the center evolved, his duties and team expanded; he oversaw an extensive technical services team of stage managers, lighting supervisors, audio engineers, and video specialists. During his tenure, John supported shows and creative works such as Ann Hamilton “appetite” (1998), White Oak Dance Project, Andy Warhol “Other Voices, Other Rooms” (2008), Annie Leibovitz (2012), Bill T. Jones Still/Here (1994), and many more. Please join us in congratulating John on his many years of service and creativity to the Wex! We wish him the best in this new chapter.

Tours at the Wexner Center for the Arts work with organizations to offer new and exciting ways to experience the art in our galleries. Last week, we were joined by Ohio State's Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy and COSAA (Central Ohio Student Advocates for the Arts) for their Museum Advocacy Day program. During the tour, participants engaged with freestyle rapper and artist Peniel Cromwell who reacted to the immersive installations now on view at the Wex. "Nancy Holt: Power Systems" and "Maria Hupfield: The Endless Return of Fabulous Panther (Biimskojiwan)" are on view through June 29, 2025.
