Our mission is to aid individuals & families struggling with mental health, substance use, & co-occurring disorders.

关于我们

The Break Free Foundation began as an idea for there to be a way for individuals struggling with their mental health and with substance use to be able to apply for financial aid to cover their treatment where insurance falls short. On February 14th, 2022, we held our first fundraiser in partnership with the 501(c)(3) organization 10,000 Beds to raise funds for their scholarship fund to send individuals to a rehabilitation center at no cost to them. We were able to award ten scholarships from this initial showcase and went on to hold our second showcase on September 10th, World Suicide Prevention Day during Recovery Month. We established a new memorial scholarship fund in partnership with 10,000 Beds in memory of Sergeant Tyler who lost his battle with depression in March of 2022. This scholarship fund will go towards helping veterans and active service members find help for their substance use before they make an irreversible decision. This year's scholarship fund will go to two individuals.

In the U.S., 1 in 5 adults experiences mental illness each year. Yet, too many suffer in silence. ?? Saying 'I'm not okay' is a brave first step, and responding with 'I'm here and I'm listening' can change everything. Together, we can break the stigma and create a world where every voice is heard and every heart is supported. ???

Today, we honor and remember the lives of transgender individuals lost to violence and prejudice. Each name represents a story cut short, a life filled with dreams, love, and resilience. Let this day remind us to stand against hate, uplift trans voices, and fight for a world where everyone is free to live authentically and without fear. ?????????

Barriers to treatment for co-occurring disorders can hinder recovery. According to the Recovery Research Institute, addressing these challenges is crucial for effective care. Let's work together to promote integrated treatment options that meet the needs of those facing both mental health and substance use issues.

Roughly 4% of Americans identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or other (LGB+), and are statistically at higher risk for substance use disorder development than those who identify as heterosexual. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals are roughly 18% more likely to have alcohol addiction, 20% more likely to have drug use disorder, and 5.9% more likely to misuse prescription medications. Despite recent advances, sexual minorities are a historically underrepresented group both socially and politically, and continue to face significant stigma and discrimination. Multiple subgroups exist within the LGBTQ+ community, and each group holds its own individual sensitivities and unique needs that may need to be addressed in order to achieve long-term recovery. According to the new National Recovery Study data, approximately 12% of the 22.35 million Americans who have resolved a significant problem with alcohol or other drugs identify as LGB+.

There are many different pathways to recovery from alcohol and other drug use disorders. Explore the different options below: ?? Clinical - recovery processes aided by the services of a healthcare provider, clinician, or other credentialed professional. ?? Self-management - recovery processes that do not involve a trained clinician, but are often community-based and utilize peer support. ?? Non-clinical - Recovery processes that involve no formal services, sometimes referred to as “natural recovery.” Each pathway offers unique benefits. Find the one that resonates with you, and take the first step toward a healthier, fulfilling life.
