Thanks Wells Fargo for our “Show Her the Money” film screening - Photo Web Album:??https://lnkd.in/gsj8Nmb9 ?Great experience on Wed 10 30 24 at Houston Community College - Northwest ! ?It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more and advance efforts to improve women entrepreneurs' access to venture capital.?The strategy and stories in the movie of how it's happening were fascinating!?Understanding this allows us be part of the move forward in furthering the cause! We also found it a great opportunity for us to gather entrepreneurs moving along the HCC Entrepreneurial pathway for networking and bonding.? It was especially fun for those that are currently in our Fall 2024 VIRTUAL Small Business Success series.?Since it started just last week; some were meeting each other in person for the first time! Thanks too for the gourmet kettle popcorn, cheese trays, soft warm pretzels, boxes galore of movie candy, bottled water and that hot & iced coffee bar!.....along with pumpkins and flowers and a photo booth!?Wow, Ashli White, way to exceed expectations in a big way!? Special thanks to Arcy Mu?oz, Whitney Wall and Ashli White for leading the event. On behalf of HCC, profound thanks to you and Wells Fargo again for your ongoing support of our entrepreneurial efforts! Thanks to Cristina Domiguez, Rey Molano and HCC’s West Houston Institute Ops Team for great facilities logistics! Thanks also to all who attended for making the most of this opportunity and for making it special!?The uplifting mood, meaningful sharing of such a powerful thought-provoking film, engaging audience Q&A, empowerment, inspiration and cheerful indulgence of it all was great!? So nice to have Dr. Maya Durnovo along with partners like Dr. Saleha Khumawala and Linda Toyota be a part of this with so many entrepreneurs and others from the Houston entrepreneurial ecosystem! #WeAreHCC #RealWorldEducation #HoustonCommunityCollege

We recently held our 4th annual designathon at HCC West Houston Institute. Students were presented with a pile of scrap (wood and plexiglass) from the idea studio and challenged to create a design for golf trophies for a local golf fundraising event. The winners were required to build their trophies in the idea studio using the same scrap they chose during the challenge. Here they are. We were all wow’s by the final products. Thanks to everyone, students, faculty, donors, admin, WHI and the idea studio for your help and support in making our Designathon a success. #hcc #wearehcc #designathon #digicom #DIT Jordan Carswell Israel Garza Samir Saber Michael Webster #houstoncommunitycollege Houston Community College Foundation Kristina Perez

This is absolutely incredible! What creativity and talent. I am honored to have been a small part in the process finding a sponsor for the Design A Thon! The students utilized Apple ipads and equipment. The designs are perfect! I cannot wait for the tournament tomorrow and having them on display.

Just a few 3D printed demo projects for Jeffrey Chen’s Lighting Design and Fabrication workshop for HCC Interior Design students at the West Houston Institute. Theory is an important element in design education but the ability to apply knowledge through hands on experience deepens the learning process for all students. What are these Houston Community College students doing on a Saturday? Participating in a Design-A-Thon! A partnering organization donated prizes, scholarship funds, food and more to receive designs for a unique project. This type of partnership leads to hands-on experience for our students to solve a real world situation. #partnershipsmatter #Houston #designathon #digicomm #philanthropy #makerspace #philanthropymatters

Last weekend we celebrated six years of JA Ignite the Spark!, our kickoff and launch event for the JA Company Program. Not even the COVID-19 pandemic stopped us from staging #Ignite to record-breaking virtual audiences, while still learning to navigate Microsoft Teams and the lockdown. JA Ignite the Spark! was birthed from the heartfelt desire to?cultivate the #innovationmindset in our high school students, using #technology frameworks as the fuel that transforms them into Solution-Seekers in Tech. Our students have pushed the boundaries of innovation with a #creativity and a #passion that amazes me. From the Hybrid Work Paradox to Unfinished Learning; from the X-Box to Gen AI, every single prompt has been met with applause, vigor, excitement and curiosity. As I walked around the West Houston Institute, observing the sea of smiling, youthful faces - too vast to count - I am reminded that #Ignite bears witness to the MIGHTY, longstanding collaborations that have made the #JACompanyProgram immensely successful. THANK YOU Veritex Community Bank, Worley, the Glenda and David Reganbaum Center for Entrepreneurship at Houston Community College - Northwest and Avanade for your Herculean support and generosity. You've shaped our kickoff event to become incredibly impactful, inspiring and empowering, with extremely high approval ratings from high schools. Our pilot #middleschool's testimonial on how much they want to return to #Ignite next year is evidence that our event is changing lives. On a personal note, I am indebted to Adam Drutz, Courtney T., Thor Schueler, Andrea Gonzales, Arti Venkatesh??, Margaret Doheny, Jason Savage, Patricia A. Martinez, Sabiha Dholkawala, Jordan Carswell, Sandra Louvier, David Regenbaum, Preeti Jain, Esmeralda T., Khalil Vinson, Mitch Kuy, Safa Chowdhry, Eric Peng and the #JACompanyProgramAlumniNetwork for being the most AMAZING partners, and for championing the #JACompanyProgram and #Ignite2024 in a myriad of ways. Courtney, Sandra and Mitch: how far have we come from those initial conversations trying to create the template for #Ignite?! You've been with me every step of the way. Adam and Preeti, your support has moved mountains! Warren Broadnax, your iconic presence made #Ignite2024 an unforgettable event. I promise you that I will chase my dreams relentlessly and fearlessly! CONGRATULATIONS to The Village School for winning this year's Avanade Tech Innovation Challenge with their brilliant AI software WasteWise! Excited to get our ‘24 - ‘25 SEED cohort started! I can’t wait to see what exciting designs these students ideate and fabricate over the next two semesters. SEED stands for Studio Experience for Emerging Designers and provides students with an opportunity to learn new hands-on skills and fabrication techniques while bridging the gap between design theory and applied practice while building their professional level portfolios. This year’s group is led by HCC faculty and furniture maker/designer Francisco Arevalo at HCC’s West Houston Institute. Learn more about SEED by visiting : https://seed-whi.carrd.co
