We are especially grateful to our operators, crews, and lab staff who are working this holiday to ensure all our water and wastewater systems continue to flow. This Thanksgiving, we’re proud to share that our employees came together to make a big impact with our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive! ???? We collected food to benefit 52 families of students who participate in after school programs in our community in partnership with United Way of Roanoke Valley, United for ALICE. ??A special shoutout to all our employees for their hard work, dedication, and giving spirit! Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Water Authority!

?? This Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks for clean water! ??While you're cooking up those delicious holiday feasts, remember to trash the grease! Please avoid pouring fats, oils, and grease down the sink—these can lead to clogs and costly repairs. ???Instead, let fats and oils cool and dispose of them in the trash. Together, we can keep our plumbing clear and our waters clean! ??

On Saturday, our employees enjoyed a hike at Carvins Cove Reservoir to the Tinker Creek Tunnel in celebration of the 58th Anniversary of the dedication of Brogan's Tunnel. ???? Brogan’s Tunnel is a 72" pipe that diverts water from Tinker Creek into the reservoir. The reservoir fills mostly by rainwater, but the tunnel can be opened or closed depending on the reservoir level and need for additional flow. Brogan’s Tunnel is one of two tunnels that lead into the reservoir - the other tunnel diverts water from Catawba Creek! ??Happy National Toilet Day!!??Do you know where your toilet water goes once you flush it? ??Our magnificent Roanoke Regional Water Pollution Control Plant treats approximately 39 million gallons of wastewater every day! It takes the whole community working together to keep our water clean. Remember, never flush "flushable" wipes. They cause nasty clogs in your home (and our treatment plant too!)

??Happy National Apprenticeship Week! ??We are proud to have some incredible high school apprentices on our team. ????The Authority’s apprentice program begins during the student’s junior or senior year of high school and continues one year beyond graduation. It offers academic instruction and 4,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. Students work with an employee trainer and mentor and receive regular feedback with the apprenticeship coordinator. During the apprenticeship, students rotate through water and wastewater treatment, distribution and collection and field operations/ construction to get a feel for each department and discover their own interests. ??
